Guest guest
, I can identify with your Dr. issues...it wasn't until I spoke to another neurologist in the same hospital as Rebekah's Dr. that I realized that there are doctors whose goal it is to get children off the meds when on the diet. At that point I started to venture out on my own...and this on line group of experienced parents....and started weaning the anticonvulsants on my own. Our neurologist didn't agree with the weaning...but now he is amazed at Rebekah's obvious progress....and would agree that it was the right thing to do.....and that as parents we know our children the best....weaning is not easy....with Rebekah it has taken us almost three years to get down to one depakote a day and we will start weaning that within the next week or so once she stablizes from this last wean. The more we wean the more seizure control we are seeing....but it has taken a very long time. It takes a long time for the body to rewire after all those drugs in the system! Rebekah has been on the MCT oil(13g per meal) since just after we started the diet and it has helped her make higher ketones as well reducing constipation issues. Hope this has helped!
