Guest guest
Hi there, I am new to this list and the SCD diet. My son has been on the GFCF diet for about 4 months and I have decided to try the SCD diet along side the gfcf because he is sensitive to gluten, casein, and corn. Just a couple of questions if someone can help me: Tomatoe juice: I have the Whole Foods brand 365 which has filtered water, and salt in it. It does say tomatoe concentrate. Has anyone used this brand or can someone recommed a brand for me? Can anyone tell me if the Hansen's brand of Pineapple and Apple juice are okay? Also, is it crucial to the diet to start with the introductory diet or can I just begin by giving him the legal foods? Thanks!!! There is no legal apple juice. Elaine writes about this in the back of BTVC. Local apple cider prepared as per Elaine's recommendations in BTVC is legal. > Also, is it crucial to the diet to start with the introductory diet > or can I just begin by giving him the legal foods? People have done the diet both ways. If possible doing the intro diet helps to flush things out faster, while feeding the body the easiest to digest foods. after that adding foods accordingly to symptoms presented. A food journal is also especially helpful; one that records food and major behavioral and bowel changes. Others have done great by just introducing SCD legal foods and removing all SCD illegals. In Canada, I can buy Heinz tomato juice in a bottle. Dole's pineapple comes in cans here and I believe there are small versions in bottles. I am not sure about 's tomato juice, but their website shows bottles ( I don't know if it's glass or plastic). > I do have Elaine's book and will check out the apple cider. Homemade apple juice is great, but remember to still dilute it with water (half water half juice). Guest guest
I use Tropicana Ruby Red grapefruit juice (because my son is sensitive to phenols and can't tolerate orange juice). I called Tropicana just now and they said the grapefruit juice is produced the same way as the orange juice, so it should be o.k., too. I also dilute it with water. > > Welcome to the list Darci, > > > > > Tomatoe juice: I have the Whole Foods brand 365 which has > filtered > > > water, and salt in it. Guest guest
I know that you can buy 's tomato juice in plastic bottles but the Dole pineapple juice I've only seen in cans. I just pour it into a plastic bottle as soon as I open it and feel more comfortable with that. C. > Thank you so much for the information!!!! Guest guest
Thanks! How about grape juice is there a certain legal one? Also, does anyone have a juicer machine they can recommend? Thanks, Darci > > Thank you so much for the information!!!! Do you know off hand if > > the tomatoe and pinapple juices you recommend come in a bottle or > > possible plastic bottle? Guest guest
Darci, Welch's white or purple grape juice are okay and they come in plastic. They have added so many variations on their flavors, just make sure you are getting the plain kind. C. > Thanks! How about grape juice is there a certain legal one? Guest guest
Hi Darci, > Thanks! How about grape juice is there a certain legal one? There are three legal grape juices: 1. Welch's grape juice 2. Kedeem Grape juice and 3. Knudsen's Organic Just Concord Grape (part of the " Knudsen Just Juice " line, not their other regular or Organic juices) Also, > does anyone have a juicer machine they can recommend? I have a Juiceman that works pretty good. Sheila, SCD 51 mos, 21 yrs UC mom of , SCD 36 mos
Guest guest
Thanks so much for the help. I do have a few other items that I could use some legal brand names, if someone knows. Spice Brand? I have been using McCormick and know that was good for gfcf. The fresh dill, basil etc. goes bad so fast. Mustard Brand? Olive and Pickle brand? Cooking spray? I use the Spectrum olive oil, but it does have the soy lethicin in it, does anyone know if this brand is okay? I also use the Spectrum and 365 (Whole Food Brand) oils. Does anyone know if No Fenol is okay to take on this diet? I made the nut/egg pancake this morning and the Monster cookies, it really is amazing what you can do with nut flour. Both were a hit. If anyone has any other great breakfast ideas like the chicken pancakes I would love to get them from you. My little guy is brunt out on scrambled eggs and egg scrambles. He askes for cashews, toast and crackers all day long. Now of course, he has thrown in cookies today. He is a bottomless pit. Sorry for all the questions, it's mind boggling to get started on a new diet. I am also avoiding gfcf and corn. Thanks again for any info. you all have. > Hi Darci, > > > Thanks!
