Guest guest
Awesome Jill Are you keeping her on a fairly strict diet, or have you loosened things up a bit? We made the step of lowering 's ratio down from 3.5:1 to 3.3:1 a couple of weeks ago and it doesn't really seem to have made any difference to him at all, so I am planning another drop down in the near-ish future in an attempt to try and get some growth back mainly, coming up 3 yrs on the diet in Sep....doesn't time fly when we're having fun.... ----- Original Message ----- Since we got the timing of the Trileptal in relation to her bedtime right, she has not had a seizure in 9 weeks and is making tremendous gains. Guest guest
Hi Claire is on 3.2:1 at the moment, but still with minimum carbs (2.4g/meal). I needed to increase her protein and other than increasing calories (which she definitely didn't need) the only other way to do it was to reduce the ratio. She was previously on what I thought was a 3.3:1 ratio, but when I plugged in the food values from the ANZ database I found that the protein values for meat that I had been using were much higher that they should have been, and that her ratio was actually 3.7:1. She seems much better all round with the increased protein and lower ratio. At 52Kg she is now having 45g protein per day which I believe is about right for her age and weight (86% RDA). It is quite tricky juggling these figures for older children. Lowering the ratio by increasing protein hasn't affected Claire's ketones so I may look at increasing protein further. I would be very wary about increasing carbs at this stage though as she is sensitive to so many foods. Also, she wears gloves when cooking, because she shows signs of sz activity when her hands are in contact with carbs (ie rolling biscuits). I'm pleased to hear is still doing so well! Guest guest
Goodness, that is a big dfference in ratios, makes me wonder what I would see with 's if I went through and double checked all the values I have been using, but most of his these days are off the packets anyway, so hopefully we are in the ballpark... Has she grown since the protein increases - does she still have some height growing to do? I can imagine it would get trickier as the kiddies get older, I hope is off the diet by the time that comes along, but never say never... ----- Original Message ----- > Hi > Claire is on 3.2:1 at the moment, but still with minimum carbs (2.4g/meal). > I needed to increase her protein and other than increasing calories (which > she definitely didn't need) the only other way to do it was to reduce the > ratio. > > She was previously on what I thought was a 3.3:1 ratio, but when I plugged > in the food values from the ANZ database I found that the protein values > for meat that I had been using were much higher that they should have been, > and that her ratio was actually 3.7:1.
