Guest guest
Claire gets a similar rash from olive oil, so we use alternative oils now and she is fine. Has your son been having any foods that he didn't have prior to starting the diet? Otherwise, could he be showing signs of med toxicity? Are there any other symptoms? Guest guest
Hi Viola I haven't read for a few days but just spotted your post. My son, Ben, developed a rash around his mouth when his ketones were too high over a few days. It soon disappeared when when we got the ketones down though. Our dietician didn't have an explanation for it. Is it a rash or a flushed look? Rose

Guest guest
excessive bruising can also be very serious side affect from the diet, we had a complete blood work up done on Stella's platelette's and their functioning. This is especially serious when they are due for surgery, I have a great and the only study done on the keto diet and blood problems. ie bruising, excessive bleeding, and slow clotting, it's related to surgery kids (of any kind) but the diet can be harmful and serious for a few kids. worth checking into. -- -mom to Stella, 5years old, started keto diet May 10th 2004 still waiting to be seizure free. Also on Lamictal, epam and Diamox. Anisa is almost 10 and a happy healthy girl.
Guest guest
I hadn't heard of that. Can you give me a reference for the study? I think that the diet can affect the side effects of the medications and it might be associated with that if you are still on meds. It also can be caused by insufficient vitamins and minerals if they aren't supplemented sufficiently while on the diet. It is very important to get a really good supplement. Guest guest
Bill if you have a fax, i'd be happy to fax you the study, it's a few pages, so I don't wan to retype it. I received it from DR. Mathews at childrens hospital in seattle wa, she is a hematologist, all kids on the diet who are due for surgery must see a hematology doc and get their blood checked before surgery. I think there a few kids whose monthly blood labs would have already given a red flag if they have platelette malfunctioning problems, that's the premise for this study. amanda
Guest guest
I also read about abnormal bleeding as side effect of ketogenic diet. This bleeding was not associated with meds.I've read it in a new book about ketogenic diet ( 2004 release) Natasha > > excessive bruising can also be very serious side affect from the diet, we > > had a complete blood work up done on Stella's platelette's and their > > functioning.
