Guest guest
Who is your insurance with? Tawnya Chewed HA insurance update So ya'll asked for an update. Apparently - this isn't going to be cost free. $300 PER AID as a " replacement charge " . She said all the HA insurances are doing it now...once one starts then they all pick it up. And this is his one and only replacement on this insurance. I can buy other insurance that is 150 a year PLUS a 150 replacement charge but she said it might not be worth it because it is a yearly expense. This does not negate his sizing and other repairs that the insurance will continue to cover. I have to renew my homeowners anyway so I'm going to get the additional coverage for their aids. At least it isn't as expensive and it gives me piece of mind. If we see our premiums go up because we have to constantly replace them then I might look into something else ...but for now..... Guest guest
We are paying for insurance now because we alreayd had to replace a hearing aid - lost at a Borders when the kids started wrestling on the floor. I didn't know you could cover hearing aids through a homeowner's insurance rider...

( premium is based on) We also have this kid of coverage through State Farm and our premium is higher because Ian's aids cost more. The premium is based on the replacement costs, not a set rate based on what they are. Ours has a $200 or $250 deductible so the annual rate is lower than it would be with no deductible. We've carried the insurance for 8 years and never made a claim, so the presence of the deductible is worth it for us. And the people at State Farm have always been very supportive and helpful. the one time we almost filed a claim, they were great. We didn't file it because we realized we were still under the Phonak two-year replacement/repair warranty. And making the claim through Phonak wouldn't boost our rates. (We considered having a homeowner's rider, but we have a really high deductible on our homeowner's insurance - high enough that the insurance probably wouldn't kick in to pay for the actual replacement cost of a TransEar unit. You gotta love living in a high-damage-TransEar unit. You gotta country.) Our State Farm rep said we shouldn't put it onto a rider for just those reasons. So the aids have their own little policy. Plus there is more chance of loss or damage to the aids than for something drastic to happen to our house so if we did make claims, it would drive up those policies and those are more expensive than the aids' little policy. We also carry a $1 million dollar umbrella policy because my hubby is a coach and we're both scout leaders. More so for the coaching. We had a friend sued because a high-school-aged child didn't listen to instructions (don't use the water pipes on the ceiling in the locker room as monkey bars) and he didn't listen and they broke and the family sued the coach for " loss of services " (of his teeth!) and negligence and won. Imagine that. After having repeatedly telling those hormonal idiots that it was dangerous and even having several conversations with their parents, and the kid even admitted he had been warned repeatedly... oy! So we got a rider just for such bizarre occurrences. Anyway, I don't need to drive up those policy rates because of the aids, so they have their own little policy. Guest guest
Hi guys-- The policy we have on 's HA's through State Farm is $113/ year with NO deductible. (His HA's are worth $1500 w/earmolds...that's what the premium is based on) The nice thing is, is that it is a separate policy, and even if he loses a couple, they might decide to cancel in a few years....but it would not affect any of our other policies. For anyone in NY I can quote this coverage, and you can write just your hearing aids through State Farm...otherwise I can help you locate a local agent. It's nice being able to sleep at night, knowing if he looses another, we're covered. He had lost one the first day, which was covered through Oticon as a one time only. Since then we lost one for a few weeks, but found it before his audi was back to order the new one. (Phew) I just want you guys to know that I don't make any commission or anything selling these policies...I just like helping people:-) I've been able to cover a few hearing aids, and a 10 year old insulin pump in the past few months, because I know how nerve-wracking it can be to not have coverage! Have a wonderful day! Guest guest
Hi - we've not insured through our homeowners (which is State Farm but in NH) because we've found we need the damage/repair coverage more than the loss portion. I figure that homeowners would not cover maintenance/repairs to the hearing aids? Naughton wrote: > > Hi guys-- > The policy we have on 's HA's through State Farm is $113/ year with > NO deductible. Guest guest
Same here. Maybe it's because my boys were late ID'd at 4yo and 2yo. We've been lucky, and haven't lost a hearing aid (that we didn't find later.) But one pair were big time lemons, and both were repaired every summer at least once. > Hi - we've not insured through our homeowners (which is State Farm > but in NH) because we've found we need the damage/repair coverage more > than the loss portion. Guest guest
Sam had a lemon-ish pair also (remember that, Stefanie?!). Stefanie and I bonded over Novo Forte woes... So I'd never not have damage repair but **knock on wood** have not needed replacement coverage. and yes, same here, our boys were ID'd at 3-1/2 and 15 months... Barbara P wrote: > > Same here. Guest guest
I was extremely ecstatic to learn that the Seboteks we just bought have a 3 year warranty. We have a rider on our homeowners ins. for loss.
Guest guest
We'd also be insured through a separate policy with State Farm for 's TransEar, except it came with 2 years of loss/maintenance insurance from his audiologist. When those two years are up, though, we'll be getting the policy through State Farm. Guest guest
So we will still have the repair coverage through the manufacturer. If I get the coverage through my home owners insurance for lost/damage coverage I'm sure my regular deductible will apply right??? So 500 (or whatever I have). I had heard about the State Farm coverage. Its 100 a year and then a deductible or no deductible? What does it cover? Repair, refit, remake and loss? Or is it just loss and damage? Now I don't know which to do. All I need for 2 more years is loss and damage coverage because of the warrenty through the manufacturer. Insurance is one of those things that goes over my head. --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. We'll help. Yahoo! Small Business. Guest guest
Sara - check with the manufacturer - some I think do cover loss/damage/repairs - it differs from vendor to vendor. The hearing aid insurers - ESCO and Midwest - do offer all I'm nearly sure. Sara Chaddock wrote: > > > > So we will still have the repair coverage through the manufacturer. We send Ian's aids in once a year for a " check-up " and when we do that we get another year of warranty for repairs. As for molds and refits ... we pay for molds when they're needed and there are no re-fits for our BTEs, at least I've never been told about something being refit. Guest guest
Ugh ... my reply referred to what is covered by our policy with State Farm. When we send in the aids for their annual check-up, that's Phonak who extends the repair warranty. Jill, who needs a cuppa coffee
