Guest guest
Hi Gang: How are ya doing ? I hope you are as good as can be expected. I had a migraine and the burning behind my eyes for three days. Finally, I got some Visine Cool, just about put the whole bottle in my eyes ..... LOL LOL LOL Now it seems better. I saw my psychiatrist today ..... I am half normal I suppose .. I always make him laugh. That is a good thing. As some of you might know. My first visit with my NSG is this Friday. I am so worried, excited .... about it. I need you to help me with something ?? I know you will, because you all just loves me, right ?? LOL LOL LOL LOL When I was at the psychiatrists office he looked up on his computer to get my file on my MRI that my Neurosurgeon had done. He was reading it. I asked him to read it out loud, because I wanted to know more. He said I was only 2 cm. I guess. That is how far it is gone done right? My psychiatrist said more that likely I won't need surgery. But, he did admit that he doesn't know all that much about Chiari. Is 2 cm allot ? Did any one get surgery at 2 cm ? I have allot of symptoms. Please oh please let me know ? Thank you and God Bless !! Debra Newfoundland & Labrador Atlantic Canada " The Grass May Be Greener On The Other Side, But It Is Just As Hard To Mow " . Did any one get surgery at 2 cm ? >> Hi Debra 2 cm is the same as 20 mm, and most people refer to the size of their herniation using the " mm " variety. 20 mm is rather large. I had surgey on my 20 mm ACM almost 6 years ago and things turned out very well. I'd do it again if needed without any hesitation. Guest guest
Hi Chip! I had the Decompression Surgery on 1/7/02 at the Cleveland Clinic, here in Ohio. I just received some hospital notes, since I'm doing an Appeal for my continued Disability and see where " the scans of the cervical spine demonstrated the cerebellar tonsillar ectopia, approximately 1.4 cm below the plane of the foramen magnum, compatible with a Chiari 1 Malformation. " This CINE Flow Test was conducted prior to my surgery to see how fluid was flowing getting through. Not very much, so they said. My surgeon did nothing with the tonsils, during the surgery, as he didn't want to cause scar tissue down the road. I guess this is actually the first time that I found out just how far down they were and still are. So please tell me....just how far is that? Because they're still there! :-) I am still experiencing severe muscle spasms and head pains since the surgery and am not able to return to work at this time. I must admit that I am over age 50. Thanks! Patty Cydrus cydrus@... Re: 2 cm ?? / Debra ?? > > He said I was only 2 cm. I guess. That is how far it is gone done > right? Is 2 cm allot ? Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- " the scans of the cervical spine demonstrated the cerebellar tonsillar ectopia, approximately 1.4 cm below the plane of the foramen magnum, compatible with a Chiari 1 Malformation. " >>> " Approximately 1.4 cm " could mean 10 mm or 20mm. If there's one problem that stands out with regard to diagnosis of Chiari malformations, it would be the rudimentary meaurements that are tossed out by well meaning radiologists. There doesn't appear to be any definitive standard of measurement, and depending on what " slice " of the MRI they choose to measure, the results can be markedly different. Did they measure the slice that showed the maximum herniation or one that was more clearly defined ? Were the tonsils symmetrical or not ? How did they define the plane of the foramun magnum ? 2 cm is about the diameter of an American dime. It's roughly 3/4 of an inch. > I guess this is actually the first time that I > found out just how far down they were and still are. So please tell > me....just how far is that? Because they're still there! :-) Mine are " still there " too.. presumably still at or around the 20 mm level. They weren't removed or cauterized during surgery. I've never had a post-op MRI, nor have I had any post-op symptoms either. > I must admit that I am over age > 50. I had surgery when I was 36. I'm 41 now, and with a little luck I'll be 42 in a short time. With no reflection on you personally, it seems like people who have surgery in their 30's or early 40's have a better overall recovery than people over 50. This is just an observation and I'm sure there are many factors and many exceptions involved. Guest guest
Hi Chip: Thank you for answering my post. I really appreciate it. I am not sure where, what ... is was measured from. I really should find out. This was only a reading like you said more or less from a radiologist to my neurologist. I will know more on Friday, when I see my Neurosurgeon for the first time. OOOhhh MMMyyyyy !! I am still nervous, anxious, confused, ..... I really don't mean to sound like a wimp !! It is the waiting ..... Will I be getting surgery or won't I be getting surgery ...??? " Is he gonna be nice or mean ... ? OOHHHHH MMyyyy " .......
