Guest guest
Rhonda, You are in Ohio near Cleveland right? I got to visit Ohio about 2 years ago (Columbus and Cleveland areas). I liked it. Seemed more down to earth and the pace of living wasn't as crazy as here in California. LOL Don't get me wrong, I would probably eventually want to come back to live in California but since my visit I have looked into opportunities in Ohio from time to time. The one major thing different is the cost of living. California is very expensive to live in. I saw apartments in Ohio that would be half of what I pay right now. I know that salaries are also different but California had gone done from what it use to offer in salaries with the poor economy. Things are starting to pick up some but I still think we have a way to go. Dianne > > > Hey buds, > > > Well looks like I am missing bowling tonight too. Guest guest
Dianne... I can relate to the economy thing here in California. I have also looked at other opportunities from time to time. My best friend lives in Michigan and she just bought a house with 5 acres, 5 bedrooms, three bathrooms, and she only paid 150 thousand. Guest guest
Ya the cost of living is why we moved back. The hubby was in the Marines and we were stationed there. When we moved back two years ago we were paying $1000 a month for a 2 bedroom townhouse. It was nice but that same townhouse would be half that here in Ohio. We wanted to stay but knew with him getting out of the Marines there was no way. We got housing allowance of $700 a month so we only had to pay the additional 300 for rent. And that's just the rent not to mention all the other expenses. I keep saying if we get lucky and win the lottery we are moving back. There is no doubt in my mind I would pick up and go back in heartbeat. Ohio I am sure is not the worst place on earth to live but I personally would never move here if I had not of been born and raised here and had family here. The weather stinks..the spring and summer allergy season is horrible. The city of cleveland is in shambles..the mayor is a flake. She just tried and is still trying to lay off hundreds of ems.fire and police..when the city needs more not less. The school system is poor at best. Homes are cheeper in cleveland than were we live in parma but you get what you pay for. You couldn't pay me to live in the city of cleveland. I would actually like to move further east of the city or even to PA. The crime is only going to worsen if she(the mayor) does go ahead with these layoffs. To show you how poorly she is managing this city..she also decided to have the garbage cans removed from the downtown area and told the public it is up to them to keep the garbage pickd up. She is off her rocked I think. Rhonda > > > > Hey buds, > > > > Well looks like I am missing bowling tonight too. Guest guest
OMG Rhonda, Thanks for the update on Ohio! We too are experiencing probable layoffs in such important areas as police and fire too. I don't think Cleveland is the only one facing that. Anyway, the trip I made to Ohio 2 years ago was the furthest east I have ever been in the US. I have made it to Germany because my mother comes from there and has relatives but in the US.. the furthest east I had ever been before my trip to Ohio was to New Mexico. I enjoyed seeing another part of the country and noticed a difference in so many ways. I have to say while driving through the country side of Ohio it reminded me alot of parts of Germany that I saw. I think mostly because the countryside was green and maybe flat. In California it is usually brown and we have lots of hills here. I love Germany. I am half German and was born there so I tend to sway toward things that are European. Speaking of European... lol.. that is where I get my liking for good food too... lol..
