Guest guest
Hi - I'm not from your area, but just wanted to say that the preschool that I send my 2 yr old to--which we've had great results with--is private. There are two teachers and 10 kids. At the beginning of the year, they have volunteer " grandmas " --ladies from the church who come in to rock, hold and comfort little ones who have trouble calming down. 1 teacher to 12 2 yr olds seems too high to me. Just wanted to give you some ideas of things to maybe look for in your search. > > the first " mainstream " preschool we put my son in at 2 yrs was too much for him and they > sent him home after 40 minutes of non stop crying and vomiting. they have a 12 : 1 ratio of > kids to teacher so they said to wait because they didn't have the staff to sit and calm him > down. > i guess that's understandable but what i've learned is that maybe a mainstream preschool > isn't the best bet for him right now because of the ratio, his speech delay, sensory problems, > attachment issues. they also didn't let me stay with him at all. not even for a day. he is 28 > months and has serious attachment to me still. 2 words and about 50 signs which not > everybody understands. not potty trained yet. does anyone know a good preschool for my > kind of boy in this area? the reason i want to try is that i see him copy other kids' speech so > well. he never copies adult speech like that. he also is very eager to try new things that he > sees other kids do. does anyone know if a special needs preschool would be a help or a > hindrance for an otherwise " normally " developing boy? they have a ratio of 3 or 4: 1. thanks! >
