I have doctors appt next week for a refferal to a different derm. My derm said they don't know what causes it and there is no cure. Aahhhhhhhh! I get so frustrated! Guest guest
Hi Donna--I had the same problem. It was so bad for a while I had to use eye pencil to fill in the holes. Since alternating betweem a variety of sulfur products (Plexion, cea Ltd Disks, AR Cream), my eyebrows have returned back to normal. Sulfur is known for being effective in treating seb derm. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I am new to this list, but I have both seb derm and rosacea. The complications from both were driving me crazy trying to figure out what to do, until my dermatologist prescribed the following lotion: Alpharma's Betamethasone Dipropionate Lotion, USP, .05% This is a clear lotion which is quickly absorbed into the skin - it is best if this is put on after Metrogel, as it has some alcohol and otherwise it will sting. It has been extremely effective for me. I asked the dermatologist if there is a problem using it continuously, and he told me there was not. Before I used this, my symptoms were similar to yours - I had dry, red, itchy, flaky skin in patches, and thought would have it the rest of my life. I'd strongly recommend having your doctor prescribe this lotion. Kathy S. >I need some help. I have seb derm really bad in my eyebrows alot of >the hairs have fallen out and i don't know what to do. Guest guest
Hi Kathy--I believe this is a topical steroid, in which case you will want to stop using it ASAP. I know it may seem to work well for the seborrheic component, but this will come back to bite you in time. Most of us have had derms who have prescribed topical steroids but the unfortunate fact is that they thin the facial skin, wreak havoc on the underlying rosacea and then have a terrible rebound effect when you stop using them. Sorry. There are times when I've been tempted to use them again because they do seem to help so much. Please ask your doctor about this. > Alpharma's Betamethasone Dipropionate Lotion, USP, .05% >
Guest guest
Hi - thanks for the advice on the Beta Dip lotion. I believe that my dermatologist initially told me NOT to use it continuously (I believe for the reasons you give below), but then I asked him again on a second appointment, and he said it was OK! I tend to use it only when I have a breakout, which is mostly after exercise, but lately, perhaps because of the L-tyrosine, I haven't had a problem with seb derm. At least I can hope that the L-tyrosine is helping - it seems to make the skin more resistant to problems, overall. But thanks for the warning, as it didn't come from my derm, who is the head of the department at a teaching university!
