Guest guest
We were told from the beginning by our dietician that since Splenda is in a powdered form, it contains more carbs than liquid sweeteners. It may be one of those things where they just want to be safe, and it is possible that it really won't affect the calculations much, but just in case, etc. We are told that liquid sweet & low and sugar-substitutes like it are fine for the ketogenic diet, in moderation, and we have never seen any bad effects from it. Personally, I can not have anything with sucralose or Splenda as I get horrible headaches... found this out recently as the new Pepsi Edge (low carb Pepsi) has sucralose & I had a horrendous headache after trying that one. All the information I have found including on packaging there are 0 carbs, therefor most reccomended by our dietician. We were told to stay away from aspartame/nutrasweet since it has 1/2 carb per serving and has been known to increase seizures in some people. All this information I have seen on here has really confused me. I have never seen any bad effects due to use of Splenda/Sucralose which we use on a regular basis. Check out this site : http://www.splenda.com/page.jhtml? id=splenda/diabetes/main.inc All data in here supports that there are no calories, although I did just notice that they added carbs = less then 1g/ serving, which i don't remeber seeing on packaging previously. Now I really don't know what to think????? Guest guest
, I have a good friend who gets severe headaches from Splenda, too. The rest of her family uses it, but it doesn't work for her. Another friend of ours has been drinking diet soda with aspartame for years and recently discovered that he gets horrible headaches from that now. Took forever to figure that out, because he'd been using it so long without any problems. I personally get headaches from saccharin, which I don't like to use anyway because I really don't like the taste. Maybe that's psychosomatic... I dunno. I think artificial " anythings " can be really helpful... or not.
