Guest guest
Hi my son Caden has been on the diet, only a week but is very fussy, and hungry all the time.I,ve noticed his Keto-Stick turns dark very fast, but he does not show all the signs of being to Ketotic.I know that being fussy can be a natrual part of the diet early on, and the doctor did not tell me this was one of the signs .He is not vomiting or breathing rapidly, do you think i should try a little O.J. to see if it helps will this throw him out of Ketosis completley.I have not had to deal with this yet and so much to learn, will proably call doctor tomorrow. Cadens Mom Viola.just wonder from the the people that have been using the diet for along timme what you think.
Guest guest
Hi there I know keto sticks can show up dark if they are not drinking enough (so therefore the urine is more concentrated). I remember having difficulty focusing on the drinking as well as all the food stuff! If he doesn't feel sick, look blotchy, seem lethargic then your high readings might be due to urine concentration? Can't think of anything else. But I feel my knowledge is still limited compared to some on this site. We have been keto since feb 04. Ben has thrown up at least once with high ketones, and that was the first symptom we noticed - never saw the blotchy face or noticed lethargy. Also good ketones have dampened his appetite significantly, whereas pre-diet he was asking for food every hour or so! Where are you - US? Some centres restrict fluid intake but I know of at least one US parent who has found this was not helpful for seizures. Ben was really fussy at the outset - battles and tears and desperation on my part. THis settled down after a month or so. It takes a while to adjust to the new spectrum of tastes and textures I think. Take care Rose
Guest guest
Hi Viola ph is also does not show any symptoms when his ketones too high.Actually he is more active when he is in deep ketosis. When his urine test turnes too dark I usually recheck ketones in blood.A few times the meter showed " High " ,that means ph's ketones were above 6 mmol/l .Once ph had rapid breathing ( no lethargy or vomiting) along with high ketones,so I gave him a little bit juice.I was instructed to give 15 ml of orange juice or 10 ml of apple juce.Do not worry you will not eleminate ketones, the juice just brings them a little bit down.Amazingly ph is also non symptomatic when he has low bood sugar,so you never know with these kids.i would cosult your dietitian and ask what she/he thinks .
