I live in Georgia so obviously wouldn't be able to go, but I know of

one presenter, Josh Swiller, who will be speaking. He is a deaf

adult who was implanted in the last couple of years, and I read his

blog avidly. He generally writes about being deaf and his experience

with his implant, which is interesting, but primarily he is just a

super sharp, witty writer and his posts always leave me in

hysterics.

If you hear him speak, PLEASE let me know how it is. I know he is

coming out with a book next summer about being a deaf Peace Corp

volunteer.

If anyone's interested, his blog is http://cochbla.blogspot.com/.

Yes, Josh Swiller is the keynote speaker. He'll be speaking to both the kids

and the parents together in the morning. The parents in the afternoon break

away and meet with a psychologist and speech pathologist and talk about all

the issues with mainstreamed hearing impaired and deaf kids. I think the

cost is something like $35 for the day and breakfast and lunch are provided.

How else would kids pay attention without food!

Not too far. It's at the League for the Hard of Hearing in Manhattan, NY.

It's a day for kids and parents both. To get more information, email Dorene

Watkins at the League at dwatkins@... and she can probably send you an

email registration form to get more info on it - or via regular snail mail.

It's for kids who are mainstreamed, fifth to eighth grade.
