Eww, skeeters! I hate them! When I was young we lived near a swamp and my Dad and I were alergic to them. I was eaten alive! He once had a 4 inch welt on his back. They were attracted to me. Even when I moved to CA I could sit outside with a group and be the only one bitten. My chemistry changed and they don't bug me as much now.

I love my yard even though it's huge. About 1 acre of it is woods and a small pond so we don't worry about that but the rest we keep nice and neat. We do a lot of mowing during the summer months. I have had a compost before. I used to put leaves and kitchen scraps in it but now I've gotten away from doing that. Guess I'm getting lazy. Have you seen the leaf sweepers that Sears sells? Boy, they are really neat and not expensive. You just hook it up to the back of your lawn tractor and it picks up the leaves and sticks. I'm hoping to have one of them next year.

Mosquitoes......ha....I bet I got you beat there. Having a pond certainly breeds mosquitoes and the wooded area I mentioned is swampy and perfect for mosquitoes. I have had to call mosquito control out because we couldn't go out side, even in the daytime, without being covered with mosquitoes. We had several cases of West Nile virus here in Okaloosa county last year and we had to have our pond treated for mosquitoes and even the woods. The county did that for free and it helped alot

Mosquitos are a pain in the butt .. and arms and

legs and faces .. smiles..

but they would be missed if they were not around.

When the mosquito is in larva form and are still wiggling around in the

water, they are a main food source for baby fish and tadpoles.

No mosquito larva = no baby fish = no big fish = no food for people,

hawks, eagles ...

No mosquito larva = no tadpoles = no grown

frogs = no food for large fish like bass plus no frogs to eat bugs.

so .. even though mosquitos are a pain ..

they would be missed ..
