Guest guest
, Is also drinking more fluids now in addition to the lowered ratio? If you can get her to drink more, I would try that first. If she's not drinking enough, her urine will be concentrated and might give falsely high values for ketones. However, if she's not feeling well, her ketones probably are too high for her. My next thought would be to consider increasing her calories. How has her weight been since she's been on the diet? What about height? If she's not gained much weight and her calories are too low, she might be burning her own body fat, which will increase ketosis. If she's pretty active physically, that may call for a small calorie increase too. Is she hungry (not " starving " but ready to eat) at mealtimes? If not, that would be another indication that her calories may be too low. How much protein is she getting per day? Has she had any lab tests done recently? I can't remember if you have a keto team to work with or if you are doing the diet on your own. If you have a team, do they have any suggestions? Cammie > > Hi! > > I need some suggestions! Guest guest
Hello Did you get my message about giving the fruit as a corrective measure? I do not know if this is a dietician-approved thing. This is from a mum whose daughter is seizure free and in every other way apparently a healthy child. She produces ketones like there is no tomorrow and this seems to be the answer for them. We're UK and I have a feeling that might be too random for you US people! I think it works if the child is not too hypersensitive. I wouldn't want to keep giving fruit juice because it's too drastic. I think when we settle down post-drug-wean we will end up having to do something similar ourselves because we also produce ketones very easily. Take care Rose
Guest guest
You have a problem that most of us would love to have instead of the opposite, too low ketones. I would not make any BIG changes. You are doing very well, I would say. If you lower the ratio, do it in small steps, 0.3 or less. And yes, wait for 2 or 3 weeks between any changes. It can easily take that long for the body to adjust. Stick with the apple juice; treat the symptoms. That is more important than what the keto sticks say. They are reinforcing your observations of symptoms of high ketones. It could be that your daughter simply is more adept at producing high ketones. It may be that you are using the right sources of fat. What are they? Are you using any medications? Some of them can affect the ketones. Maybe there are mistakes in the menus and you are actually at a higher ratio. Or other causes. Be happy that things are going so well for you!
