Guest guest
It's interesting you mentioned getting dehydrated after consuming glutened, Cheyenne. I've noticed that after I get glutened I have the urge to drink tons and tons of water, but I didn't know that was a common symptom. Do you know why people get dehydrated after having eaten gluten? ~Amy > > Long time no type. Guest guest
Amy, We're dehydrated due to diarrhea. :-) Actually; more like - :-( ~Cheyenne
Guest guest
My guess about the dehydration after ingesting gluten would be that the reaction to gluten is a severe case of diarrhea. This will dehydrate a person, because all the water that would ordinarily be absorbed from the intestines passes right through. Guest guest
Amy I think the Dehydration issue was a PC way of saying it is coming out the other end. Opps... that was PC too. Oh well, I think you get the meaning. Sonja > > > > > > Long time no type. Guest guest
For me it is. When I get a bad glutening it comes out both ends I will get so dehydrated that I end up having to get IV fluids and medication to stop the vomiting. > > My guess about the dehydration after ingesting gluten > would be that the reaction to gluten is a severe case > of diarrhea. Guest guest
That makes a lot of sense, I guess I never really thought about it because I usually get really dehydrated a few hours before I start getting diarrhea, but it would make sense that the two would be connected because of the intestines not absorbing the water ~Amy > > > > > > > > Long time no type. Guest guest
> > It's interesting you mentioned getting dehydrated after consuming > glutened, Cheyenne. I've noticed that after I get glutened I have > the urge to drink tons and tons of water, but I didn't know that was > a common symptom. > Do you know why people get dehydrated after > having eaten gluten? Gluten slows down digestion and causes delayed gastric emptying. Ascites accumulation in the peritoneal cavity causes the filling of the abdomen along with gas causes the fulid equilibrium to shift in favor of lower blood volume. Excess water in the digested food is typically adsorbed in the large bowel, diarrhea can cause a loss of fluid this way, but obstruction in the small intestine can cause maladsorption of water with a preference of fluids in leaky bowel toward the peritoneal cavity as ascites, and prevent proper clearance to the large intestine. With periods of dehydration and alterations in the reclined versus standing blood pressure there are periods of fluid clearance, that are spontaenous (excessive urine volumes over short periods), where the blood pressure remarkably returns to normal this represents a clearance of the ascites to the blood system and then the clearance of excess volume through the kidneys. In animal the presences of material and antigens or antibodies in the ascites fluid prevents the resolution. It is not clear how clearance is accomplished, but addition of bodily fluids without allergans. Addition of fluid via IV solutions clearly puts the favor in the direction of fluid mobility, and via the bowel and kidneys the situation is resolved. It is known for instance that gluten is found in the blood of EIA and CD. So it is possible that it is cleared via the kidneys, alternatively excess fluid adsorbed through the upper GI may force the allergens back into the small intestine where they are eventually passed our or broken down. Therefore is there is a serious dehydation problem and IV rehydration is not out of the question.
