Guest guest
It may take a few days for the dreaded side effects of the diet to appear. Constipation, reflux, etc. Those are the worst and most common. They both give the symtoms you see. You have to watch carefully and treat them agressively. Be absolutely certain to keep up with the fluids, even if he won't eat. If you start to get vomiting, then you know that things are getting worse. Hope that you are having some good affects seizurewise. Good luck, Bill dreamerofluna wrote: > > Hi everyone!! > > We are back from starting the hospital. Guest guest
Try to at least get the fluids in or he will dehydrate. Keto kids go downhill quite quickly. My son did the same thing and not to scare you, but we ended up back in the hospital a week later w/ dehydration, acidosis and over-ketosis. He refused everything. Make shre the liquids go in, syringe them if you need to...and maybe at least see if he'll drink at least the eggnog? Flavored? Or jello mixed w/ oil? It's a major change, go slowly and chances are he'll kick into gear. Barb Swoyer, Jake's mom won't eat... > > > Hi everyone!! > > We are back from starting the hospital. Guest guest
Dreamer, The same appetite suppression happened to my son on about day 3 or 4 of keto. Just as we were leaving the hospital and the first few days at home. It tore my heart apart, because my son was so sad and depressed and kept saying, " I'm really not all that hungry " as he refused 2 meals in a row. I finally broke through with a rootbeer float for breakfast. He seemed just as relieved as I did, to find something that tasted good. I realize now that his lack of appetite was due to his body adjusting to the ketones. After several days, the appetite returned with vengence (perhaps due to the fact that he lost 10 of his 70 pounds in initiating keto.) I was glad to see the appetite, but it did bring other issues. The kids can feel really bad as their bodies make this adjustment. My advice for you is to just feed your child half meals until the appetite returns. At this stage of the diet, they tend to throw up, too. (Nothing like forcing down a meal, throwing it up, and then having to eat similar amounts of fat for the next meal.) It is so great that you were able to stop depakote cold-turkey! Hang in there, the first few weeks/months can be tough. But your efforts will be rewarded. Guest guest
He has been doing better last night and today with the eating. He LOVES the keto pancakes. And he is in high ketosis. The second day of the diet he only had 2 seizures, that is rare for him. But now he is having alot more. Could this be because of the cold turkey stop to the depakote. He was on 750mg. > > > > Hi everyone!! > > > > We are back from starting the hospital. Everything was going great > > until we got home!! I thought once we got home it would be > > wonderful. Guest guest
You can get withdrawal seizures from many medications, yes. You may also have to fine tune the diet to get better control.
