weaning off pain meds post op

Hi gang,

I'm wondering how long it should take to wean off pain

meds after surgery. My post op directions were to

start trying to wean off after 2 weeks. I am 23 days

post op. Starting at two weeks was too soon for me.

I started with 1 Darvacet 4x/day and 1 flexiril

3x/day. Now I am substituting 500mg of tylenol for

one darvacet and cutting back to 2 flexiril/day.

That seemed to be going ok, but when I tried

substituting another of the darvacets with tylenol I

got a terrible headache - one that hurts with any type

of movement. It's taking a while to get the pain back

under control.

Am I trying to cut back too much too soon? When did

any of you start weaning off and how long did it take?

I've already had to get a refill on my original

script of darvacet one time through my primary doctor.

The only other med I'm taking is a vitamin. I had to

go off motrin because it gave me a mouth full of

canker sores.

Any advice on weaning off these meds would be

appreciated:)
