Guest guest
Hi Something strange has happened with my ketosticks - they don't seem to be working anymore. In the UK these are reactive strips to dip in urine (sorry I don't know how you measure elsewhere in the world!). Ben has been a consistent 4-8 in the morning and a dark 16 at night for weeks. Then suddenly this drops off to 4 in the morning and 8 at night. Can the sticks deteriorate in any way - get damp or something? At the same time we've had a few episodes of vomiting (definitely not a bug as each time is preceded by feeling queasy over a meal, throwing up and then being right as rain). Our dietician says this is likely to be a result of high ketones and wants us to adjust the MCT oil. The second to last time he threw up was on a high ketone day, last time was yesterday when the ketones seemed not so high. Today I opened a new container of ketosticks even though the old one wasn't empty, and we were back up to 4-8 in the morning, still nearly throwing up over lunch. Lunch took 1 hour 45 minutes today (can you beat that one Nicola?!) Rose Toms - Mum of Ben (9) - in ketosis since March 04 and now a completely different child, just struggling with feeling a bit queasy at the moment. Guest guest
Hi there, I've noticed that the keto sticks get less reliable by the end of the packet - I guess they may be affected by moisture in the air, so if I have low readings I often switch to a new tube. We've had episodes of vomitting on MCT oil, though fortunately non recently. We dropped the amount back, then gradually increased it (10ml every other day) till we had good ketones, but he was holding on to the stuff at both ends - if you get my meaning!! We ended up on a level below the dieticians initial calculations, but still got good seizure control and weight gain. Where abouts in the UK are you - I'm in Warrington, North West and we're under Alder Hey.
