Guest guest
Hi! My son, Jimmy, is NOT on the MCT oil version of the diet, however, he does take Clonazepam (Klonopin). He has Lennox Gastaut Seizure Disorder and was experienceing over 100 seizures per day prior to the initiation of the diet. He was on six meds, but now is taking only the one (Clonazepam!). Because you have to switch to non- carbohydrate versions of meds whenever possible, if your child is on a pharmacy-made liquid version of Clonazepam like my son was, you'll have to switch him to the wafer. It dissolves instantly on the tongue. Jimmy is 2 1/2 years old, and takes 1 wafer 2 times per day. Aside from when he is sick or teething, he is seizure-free now. He is on a liquid version of the diet because he cannot chew solid foods well (he is multiply-disabled). Don't worry! If you give the diet a good try (I would say 4-6 months) without much success, then maybe you would want to switch to the old-fashioned non-MCT version to see if it makes a difference. Maybe you'll be fortunate like we were and see the difference (seizure-free!) before you even leave the hospital!!!! GOod luck! Guest guest
Hi Sue Ellen It sounds like the diet has been a real bonus to your son Jimmy!! Just one med now instead of 6!! Thanks for the tip re the clonazepam wafer. Would you know what dose is in each wafer and who the manufacturer's are? Harry was diagnosed with myoclonic astatic epilepsy earlier this year. He has tried 5 medications now..none of which have really helped. Hope keto is our answer..at least for a while... Wishing you all the very best, paulax > > Hi All > > > > Im not sure I'll want to hear your answers to this but I'll ask > > anyway. > > > > Harry is on 0.4mg clonazepam twice a day 9and not too well on it). > we > > are due to start the mct version of the keto diet 2nd August..I'm > > nervous we might have probs (MCT version). Guest guest
Klonopin Wafers (Clonazepam Orally-Disintegrating Tablets) have .125mg each. They are manufactured by Roche Laboratories. They are about the size of a dime. They literally dissolve instantly, and have no taste! I have found that the Clonazepam helps with Jimmy's clonus (continuous trembling of legs). I am also convinced that it helps Jimmy's spasticity, as well. I once ran out and went one day without the wafer, and the seizures did come back. I really believe each med has a very different result in each child, and there is no " blanket " med cure that works the same in each case, even if the diagnoses are the same. The diet has been life-changing for us! I hope you find the same success, and please keep me posted! -Sue Ellen:) > > > Hi All > > > > > > Im not sure I'll want to hear your answers to this but I'll ask > > > anyway. > > > > > > Harry is on 0.4mg clonazepam twice a day 9and not too well on > it). > > we > > > are due to start the mct version of the keto diet 2nd August..I'm > > > nervous we might have probs (MCT version).
