Guest guest
You can get a sign that says " Warning, Deaf Child Near " or " Deaf Child Playing " . Now, I personally was not successful in CA when I wanted one, but I have seen this sign in Washington State, other parts of CA, and here in PA, and in MD. You do need to contact your local township or city government office and talk to the traffic people. Likely you will need to show the audiology reports. If you have a resistant traffic engineer, he will tell you that people will not change their driving habits and that is the people in your neighborhood who drive fast. You may need to do some research, but ask first. I might also consider a fence. > > Are there such things as road signs warning about " Caution: Hard of > Hearing Children " . Guest guest
> > Are there such things as road signs warning about " Caution: Hard of > > Hearing Children " . We live in a small town in Indiana. All we did was call the town hall to request a sign and the next day we had one that said 'Deaf Child Area'. I guess we got lucky. It may have slowed some people down, but there are always those who don't listen. I guess every town is different.

One is deaf in one ear and the audiologist warns me about safety for her - she doesn't know where the sound is coming from (ie- a car). I worry about her/them in the front yard. By the way I live in Massachusetts if this is a state thing. Anyone know?, ** Cathy, I'd start by calling Town Hall and asking what the requirements are. also has a unilateral loss (complete in one ear), and we have HEARING IMPAIRED CHILD signs at both ends of our street for the same reason. We have a lot of construction workers who tear through our neighborhood (it's a relatively new subdivision with lots of houses still being built), and you can tell who the new ones are - they slam their brakes on when they see " 's signs " . We live in an unincorporated area of Nebraska. For us, we needed to contact the authority responsible for the roads in our subdivision, and offered to provide a letter from our otologist. They didn't even require the letter, which is a bit unheard of - but we got the signs, so it worked out. Good luck! Guest guest
I don't know about " Hard of Hearing " signs but the " Deaf Child " warnig signs ar something that I think is crucial to warn drivers even delivery people that may pull into your driveway. We had them put up when my son was first starting to get around in the yard. We also have a " right of way " access road that allows access to the field containing a cel tower located in the field behind the house and we required them to place another sign in the driveway to warn tower workers that our sone is deaf. When we first inquired to our township we were told " good Luck " , meaning that it was doubtful they would place the signs wothout trouble. We had no problems getting them to do so. We beleive the ease was because we also sent a copy of the letter to the State Rep. in our area. The first week the signs were in place the State Police stopped many cars for sppeding along our road. Unfortunately they only sat in the region for a few weeks. I think it may be time to call again to complain about the speed issue. I was perplexed as to why they would steal that. I know kids typically try to steal stop signs and such but a DEAF CHILD AREA sigh??? I just thought it was weird. Maybe it wound up on ebay...hehehe Elaine
