Guest guest
The med you are taking is a combination drug .. it is a type of heart drug that helps the muscle relax a bit plus a anti-fluid pill. What you are describing about shortness of breath and fluid around the heart .. is suggestive of congestive heart failure. In congestive heart failure, what happens is the heart is still working, but it just cannot get the oomph needed to clear the body of extra fluid. The fluid builds up, taking up the space the heart needs to expand when it beats, and the fluid literally squishes the heart until the heart just says .. ok .. I give up. Usually what happens is the lungs fill with fluid and the patient literally is drowning in their own fluids (blood, plasma).. the lungs cannot oxygenate the blood because they are too full of blood to work like they are supposed to. (like the medical jargon? smiles..layman's terms here ) The usual dosage of the medication you are taking is 5 or 10 mg once a day. Anything more than that will cause more side effects. At the lower dosages, there is usually no problems other than some light dizziness and light nausea until the body gets used to the medication. The dizziness is caused by a drop in blood pressure and the nausea may be caused by the fluctuation of potassium in the blood. The potassium level is not usually affected with this drug, but if you were low to begin with, it wouldn't hurt to add a banana or an extra glass of orange juice to your diet. You definitely need to be followed up on this medication, so make sure your regular doctor knows you are taking it. It can mess up how other drugs work and can even give you a positive ANA. Good luck ..
