Guest guest
I called EFMP to see who I should make a complaint to about DA taking their time with the orders. They told me to go to the IG here. She said that we should have been out of here already. So I went ahead and called her and she wasn't very helpful saying that it usually takes this long and that this is actually the fastest she has seen it go through which is probably because of me. Well, she had a bit of an attitude and I just lost it. She was going on about what I needed to understand about the military and the military not acting on things fast and she wouldn't let me get a word in edge wise so I just yelled over her that she needed to understand that I will sue the military if something happens to my daughter over here. And I had some few choice words for her attitude with me. I'll tell you my tongue is like a two edge sword and once it's out, it's out. She then said that she was going to call DA this afternoon (the time difference between us and the states) and find out what is taking so long and try to light a fire up under them and then get back to me, funny considering before I gave the attitude she couldn't do anything. Well, a little while afterwards I felt so bad that I had been so cruel to her that I called back and apologized for my not so nice words. She said that there was no need for an apology and that people in charge of this stuff do need to realize the severity of Abby's problems and realize that she could die over here without the treatment and then the military would have to pay for it. She also apologized for her attitude with me and she said that it wasn't warranted, that I was just trying to take care of my child and that she didn't know that we started the whole process back in December, she thought that it was just started a month ago. And she admitted that if I wasn't so persist and the attitude to boot then she probably wouldn't call to check on it and that it wouldn't already be up at DA. I still feel kinda bad though. It's just a shame that it has to come down to this. Does anyone in the military know how to go about requesting that regulations be put in place or changed? I think that compassionate reassignment request need to have a time limit on how long they take to get approved so that a tragedy doesn't happen and so that the process doesn't take this long. I mean, a curtailment request only takes 45 days to hear back about. That is the maximum amount of time the military has to get back to you on it but a compassionate request doesn't have one. If we put in for a curtailment then we would be out of here already and everything. But we couldn't put in for that because Abby's condition is not going to be resolved in a year or less. I just want to scream!!! Oh wait I already did at IG, lol. We better be on orders soon I will be writing a letter to the Stars and Stripes. That's what I should have a long time ago. We would probably already have our orders by now. Guest guest
You have all ready been far to patient for my liking. The time for letter writing and lawyer hiring is here. You have to realize that even a letter from your lawyer will get their butts in gear much faster than a tantrum on the phone. And I do approve tantrums over the phone. :-) I have pulled quite a few myself with insurance companies and the like. :-) All that your lawyer has to do on his official letter head is to state what you have applied for, the seriousness of Abby's condition, that you needed to leave YESTERDAY, and that if you don't have an answer with in " x " amount of time a legal suit will be brought against them. Guest guest
Karrie, I know how you feel about the military. Hubby is retired so we deal with them every time we need any kind of doctor for anything! I am so glad we arent dealing with them in a situation like yours. Just to get approval to see my heart specialist it takes an act of congress--------almost! And to get the polyp removed from my sinus cavity it did take congress-------------they paid for sinus meds for years and just didnt understand why i should need surgery for anything------------so------we went to the local senator's office which is just around the corner from their referral office. By the time we drove around the block to the referral office we had approval for the surgery----------in writing! Got a write up in the local newspaper about how bad they are at that office too! YEAH!!!!!!!!! Maybe you should write, call, email, fax your congressmen----------or the white house or something! Good luck. I will let ya know if hubby has any suggestions. Guest guest
Aunt B, I think it takes an act of congress to get pretty much anything done in the military. It certainly took an act of congress for me to get the orders, lol. I did write a letter to Bush and Cheney on my what policies I think need to be put in place for compassionate reassignments. I'll look up my Senator's email and write him also. Families should have to go through so much to get help for their family members and have to wait so long to hear anything back. They have a time line set for curtailments which are not emergency situations but not for compassionate. And if it's a condition not expect to improve within a year you have to use the compassionate. I would have already been out of here if we were able to apply for a curtailment. I even asked about an AROD, being sent back without my husband and found that would take months to go through. Of course one good thing about the military is that we don't have to pay for any medications or doctors. Guest guest
Karrie, You are right about the military paying but before I quit working I kept my own insurance because I had heard it was a pain to deal with. But, at least they do pay---just not what the other insurance companies pay and that causes doc's to have an indifferent attitude toward military insurance patients. I am a big mouth so I tend to take up for the other patients too whenever I find out about them having problems. I have also found that being a bit bitchy seems to help a whole lot. Like----------dont make me be a bitch people! lol Anyway, I know you will be glad to be back home. And, since you already have a home there you will really enjoy! Being able to get the testing and treatment you daughter needs will make you feel lots and lots better, too! Good luck. Guest guest
Aunt B, I have found that being bitchy does get things done in the military. I always try to be nice first but then find that only makes it easier for them to put you off and everything and then when I give my attitude things start happening. Probably so they don't have to deal with me anymore, lol. I have also found that the military tends to take their time about paying medical bills and then you have the doctor or hospital calling and harassing you about it. That has happened to me before. But we'll be home soon so I am happy about that. And Abby will start to get the help that she needs. I already feel much better.
