This is for everyone, that my have any advice on how to get

Miranda to sit still, to take her breathing treatments. It is very

difficalt! She does very well taking her med's! She is so active,

always on the go.

This past week she had RSV(upper resptory infection) We got her on

Amoxicillin,200mg, and now she just has the cough & runny nose. The

first couple day she really had me worried, I thought I was going to

have to take her in to Albuqueque. But , thank goodness we have a

great Dr. in our little town, that came to the house and got her what

she needed. Her being the only one in town that has CF, our Dr. knows

how mom get's. So she made a house call for us, It was so great of

the her to do that!

I am sure there are many of you that would love a Dr. to make

house call's! After all it isn't easy to get an appt. when you

really need one! This Dr. is not her CF, Dr. She is just our reguler

Family Dr, But she is great!!

O.k another question, How old does Miranda have to be to get one

of those Vest? I don't know what they are called, was just

reading someother e-mails on it.

Thank You!

Theresa,

You get tapes of things they like or read books or we use to just look out

the window and watch the birds she loved that. I would tell her that they are

watching her because they have never seen someone wear a mask like that. She

loved that and it kept her entertained. Hope this helps. Deb A

We have a 7 month old, Jade, and a 2 year old,Chyann, both with CF, and we

watch the Baby Einstein videos when we are doing our treatments. They work

great for Jade and pretty well for Chyann. It is amazing how these videos

keep their attention. Good Luck!!

Hi Theresa,

Randy here from the Vest Company (Advanced Respiratory). The fitting of the

Vest is based on size. We found that usually 2 year olds are the right size

for the Vest; however, we have given them to patients as young as 16 - 18

months. We look for a chest circumference of 20-21 inches. We can

customize the Vest to fit someone smaller at no additional cost. The best

thing to do is to let us and your MD know that you would like to try the

Vest and we can work with you on that. If you would like mire info, let me

know who your MD is or let me know where you live and I can have one of our

local people contact you. You can also call the company at 1-.

They can help you as well. As usual, I am always available to help. Call

me @ 1- (toll free) and we will take care of you.

Yes , you all give good advice. But, I have tried all of that in the past and

it is still very difficalt. We, will just have to keep working at it! There will

come a day where she will just sit still, for it. I don't know how long that

will take, but we have alot of patient's! So Thank you. Keep in touch!

Right now Pattimae is 14 months old. She likes to

watch blue's clues or the wiggles durring breathing

treatments and cpt. She will let me giver her a

longer cpt with blue's clues than the wiggles though

as she wants to get up and dance with them. :-)

Does Miranda get angry during treatments? Sometimes

Patti does. She just screams and fights and it is

just terrible. One evening when she was doing this I

thought, you know I am mad too, I don't want to be

doing this either. I started giving her stuff to

throw and told her encouragingly to go ahead and be

mad. She had good reason and that she could be mad

all that she wanted. The whole time I continued to do

cpt. After a few minutes of us both ranting, raving,

screaming, and throwing stuff she stopped. Now when

ever she gets angry and wiggly we do the same thing.

I think the old saying misery loves company (or at

least empathy)is true. It doesn't take very long for

her to stop a tantrum during cpt anymore when we do

this.

My 18 mo loves Dora. He also LOVES A Bug's Life, we have it on DVD, by

Pixar/Disney. I cannot describe to you how effectively this captures his

attention. It worked on my 3 yo when she was a toddler, too. It's got vivid

colors. There is one slightly scary part where the mean grasshopper yells,

but nothing compared to most Disney movies.

I'm sure you know, since you have an 11 yo, that the saying " this too shall

pass " goes a long way during the toddler stage. It's something of a mantra

around here!

Dawn,

I just love your way of thinking! Hope you keep lots of stuffed animals

around during cpt -- just in case you two want to have a throwing tantrum!

All jokes aside, i think that is the funniest and likely one of the best ways

i have ever heard to stop a childs tantrum. Both my nephews have them, too!

I will have to tell my sisters to give that idea a try!

Theresa,

We also use videos/kids shows such as others have mentioned and it does

distract her. However, what has really worked for us is to time her

therapy for when she is tired or already asleep. Her morning therapy I

start when she is still sleeping. I pick her up and if I do it gently

enough she will nuzzle up next to me for her neb and I just flip her over

when I am done and start therapy. She usually wakes up during the middle

of the morning therapy and when she starts to fuss I put on a kids show.

If she is sick and needs a mid-day treatment, I wait until about an hour

before she normally wakes up and do the same thing as I do in the

morning. At night, we always start her treatments at 8 when she is ready

to go to sleep. Once in a while, she will stay awake the whole time but

about 90% of the time she just nods off before I even finish the

nebulizer. We did have problems for a while, primarily it was when my

husband did the therapy. When she did fuss, he was trying to hold her

down and keep her still. On the other hand, I let her squirm and found

that by deflecting her arms with my other hand that I could still do the

therapy while she squirmed. I also angled her feet away from me so she

couldn't push off me and could kick all she wanted. The end result being

that she soon grew tired of squirming since it didn't really seem to make

mommy stop. Eventually, I convinced my husband to do this as well and

she only occasionally acts up for him now. If she should happen to cry,

I stroke her hair with my free hand and gently talk to her in a very calm

rhythmic tone sort of like they do on relaxation tapes or I sing softly

to her songs that I made up about her. This usually does the trick.

She is so funny! She hangs on to the stero cabinet

and shakes her little butt like you wouldn't believe.

:-) She is trying to hop now as she has seen her

bigger sister do this so she shakes and then stomps

really hard with one foot and makes monkey noises at

the same time. (her favorite song of theirs is Do the

Monkey) I have to video it before some one tells her

we are baptists!! :-)

Theresa,

You go girl! Loved reading about your eye dr troubles. Very

funny---especially the rest of the day!

Hubby is one of those people who are way too impatient to wait at he doc's

office. He sends them a bill for the time past his appointment. So far, he

has never gotten a bill paid he sent but he always gets in on time next

Hello Everyone! Hope all of you are well!

I need to vent alittle, Today Mikey, my 11yr (wncf) had a Eye Dr.'s appt. in

Lovington, witch is 30miles away. His appt. is at 11:30am. I go and get there at

11:15am. We sat in there for 1:hr, Miranda was getting very hungry, and

getting crankyer by the min. Then there was this lady in there , waiting on her

appt. we are talking the kids are playing , having a good time . This is what

she said to me about Miranda. She is so tiny, for being 18mons old, well I have

to explain to her what Cystic Fibrosis is! Sometime, I get a little defencive

when it comes to people remarking about how tiny , my little girl is! It's very

heart wrenching!! Then , the Lady behind the desk, never tell us the Dr. left

for lunch, WELL HOW CONVENIENT IS THAT!!! Boy, I was mad, I told Mikey , sorry

son but I am not waiting for him to get done with his lunch, When our time is

more valueable that!! We got up and walked out.

In April we go back for Miranda's CF appt, & Eye check up. So I will just make

his appt. after Miranda's and get it done all right there! We have gone to

Eye Assosiates 30mins early and they always rushed use in and out! Never had to

sit and wait, how rude, huh? I just don't like it when, You are on time and

sometimes early, and you wait & wait & wait,! But there are just some Dr.'s

offices that just don't CARE!! That must be what it is ! Or why would a Dr. be

so rude!!

O.k after we walked out we went to Sonic and had a great lunch with Dad. We all

don't get together for lunch to often! So it was nice and I got to tell him all

about it!! Ha, Ha! Big Mike said, he would have did the same thing!! So

then we went shopping, What Mommy & Miranda love to do!! ha, ha She loves to

push the cart all over! She look's around & gabbers out some little lingo,

It's so darn cute! My Husband just got a kick out of her today, Well, after

all that we went home and she had a very long nap. We got her The Interactive

Pooh Bear today, It goes to the computer and it talk's to her, say's her name.

She loves Pooh! It's really educational. I think it is going to bring her many

hours of happieness. And of course we all got something special, too!

Well, My the lord watch over Each & Everyone of you!! Thank you for letting

me rat & rave, lol

Theresa,

I know how you feel about waiting. The longest I waited for an appt. was 3

hours! It was an OB appt. when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I

didn't have a watch and there wasn't a clock in the waiting room. Well, you

know how you're waiting for an appt. and 10 minutes seem like forever so I

really didn't think I had waited that long till I finally asked someone what

time it was, lol. I was thinking an hour had to have gone by but didn't

realize 3 hours had. I can't believe your son's doctor left for lunch with

patients still waiting and they didn't tell you that.

Theresa,

I was reading your email yesterday but decided to go get some lunch hope

you don't mind waiting for a reply! just kidding. I would have walked out too.

Can you imagine anyone in any other job field doing that to their customers.

Sometimes at work I'm lucky if I can grab a carrot stick as I run past the desk

nevermind a break! Ha I guess once you get MD after your name you are no longer

held by the rules of politeness in modern society. Take care. Your kiddos sound

like real cutie pies.

and on our way

something, that we can go to and get cheered up, by all the great people out
