Guest guest
One capsule a day of omega 3/6/9 is really not much. You should start out with at least 2. Good to start vit E now too if you go that route. There are 8 components of vitamin E (tocophorol) Alpha and gamma are 2 of these. There is also beta, delta etc. Alpha is the component utilized most (ie most important as far as we know now), while high supplement of alpha causes a gamma deficiency. Gamma has important anti-inflammatory properties. This is why both are given. But if you start out with 400 iu a day of alpha...the gamma isn't really necessary until you go higher. Some people have seen more benefits from the gamma, so in this group of kids...gamma may play a bigger role than we understand at this point. You can get alpha at any drug store or health food center. Just make sure its natural (alpha-d-tocophorol) NOT alpha " dl " tocophorol. That little " dl " is easy to miss and this is a synthetic form that should be avoided. I use Jarrow brand Gamma 300 for the gamma. But there are others out there, and some health food stores sell a complete vit E that has the alpha and gamma and other components. Good luck. - > My son is 2 1/5 and was diagnosed with apraxia last August. He's been in speech therapy since then, but I just started reading this list and learning about supplements. I started him on one capsule/day of Complete Omega 3-6-9 yesterday, but I see lots of people also giving Vitamin E. When's a good time to start him on that? Also, it looks like there is " alpha " and " gamma " , but I don't understand what that means. Are there any specific brands of vitamins that people recommend (it was very helpful that everyone recommended Nordic Naturals for EFAs). > > Sue > > > __________________________________________________ >
