Guest guest
Hi, We've been easing into SCD for our 3.5 year old (PDD-NOS diagnosis). One thing he is just loving is breakfast pancakes I've been coming up with. I've made banana (egg+banana), papaya (egg+papaya+dried lima beans), squash (squash & egg). I was wondering if ya'll had any other good pancake ideas. Also: I've been making muffins with whole nuts by blending them nearly to a paste. Would it be better to soak nuts overnight first? AND: My son LOVES ketchup--that's the one thing we're not compliant on yet. Have any of you tried the BTVC ketchup recipe? What ketchup recipes do you like? Thank you! We had some fear going into this but our son is eating like a champ, pretty much. Fingers crossed for some better gains with this than GFCF. Guest guest
" papaya (egg+papaya+dried lima beans) " Amy, If you are grinding up dried lima beans, that's not allowed on SCD. Dried lima beans must soaked overnight and then cooked. At that point you could puree them and use them in recipes. Or you can cook fresh or frozen lima beans and then puree them and use them in recipes. Uncooked beans are not allowed on SCD. For other pancake ideas, check out the recipes on pecanbread.com. http://www.pecanbread.com/recipes.html Scroll down to the pancake section. Welcome to the list! Guest guest
Thanks! i soaked the limas for 24 hours, drained, washed, cooked them till they wre mushy and mashed them. I used the mashed beans in a recipe. I'm wondering--since my son does not have bm issues should we still delay use of beans? Guest guest
I was under the impression that all nuts had to be soaked first under SCD. Another one is apple/cinnamin with a hint of lemon zest. Guest guest
Didn't put dried limas straight in the pancakes--sorry for the confusion--I 24-hour soaked, drained, washed, cooked, mashed . . . all of that. Love the apple/cinnamon/ lemon idea! Guest guest
hi Amy, for what it's worth, I cant say enough good things about the food stages at www.pecanbread.com under food preparation. If a child (or adult) starting SCD really can tolerate a given food they will soon enough be there at the stage where it is listed. If they cant tolerate certain foods you might know even before trying it by how he/she tolerates the other foods in those stages. i knew as i proceeded with my 3 children that my boys needed to rest in the cooked fruit cooked, veggies stage (sorry dont remember which stage number that was). that was where we needed to stay to do our healing because anything i tried in the next stage was causing a bad stool reaction. my daughter on the other hand started SCD and could handle the lentils, and seeds, and dried fruits right away. she probably didnt have much gut damage when we learned of her celiac disease through a blood test. and my family really enjoys the ketchup in BTVC. donna > > I'm wondering--since my son does not have bm issues should we still delay use of > beans? > > Amy
Guest guest
in the beginning my kids had a bad reaction to a small amount of lemon zest (from the peel). so we used lemon juice instead. donna > I was under the impression that all nuts had to be soaked first under SCD. > > Another one is apple/cinnamin with a hint of lemon zest. >
Guest guest
This is the BEST tasting pancakes recipe I have found and I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old that can't get enough of them. I think I got this recipe from Elaine G.'s website (can't remember)... Peanut Butter Banana Pancakes: 1/4 c. peanut butter (of course no sugar added) 1 banana 1/2 t. baking soda 2 eggs Dump all and beat with mixer until smooth. Cook them like you would with normal pancakes, but make them smaller and turn them fast because they burn easy. We drizzle honey on them and fold them like little pancake tacos - they taste awesome. Good luck.
