How to get glucose down?

Hello everybody

Thanks for previous help with " fine tuning mess " . Mia is now on 3.5:1 ratio and

ketones

have gently drifted into a better range with disappearance of Mia's vomitting

and lethargy.

However......we've still not got back to the state of wellness she had for a few

weeks at the

start of the diet. She's still off her legs, not talking and having some fits in

sleep. She had

been fit free and developing in leaps and bounds during the first few weeks.

Recently we have been measuring her glucose levels and they are ranging from 4.4

to 5.5

throughout the day (4.4 even first thing in the morning). She is on 1000 cals

for weight of

15.3Kg, Height 98cm, both ideal. We can't figure out where the glucose is coming

from.

She does not, so far, appear to be losing or gaining weight. We don't have

access to Dexa

scanning, she has been a bit stressed with excess ketosis, vomitting, and a bit

of a cold so

it could be a stress reaction?? Any thoughts?

We have decreased the amount of carbs in each meal a little further...with

relatively more

protein but keeping the 3.5:1 ratio. Has anybody else done this with any

success??

Where is the centre that uses glucose to fine tune? Do they have any clever/easy

ways of

finding where the glucose is coming from when the ketones seem fine?

Thanks

Dominic

Hi Dominic - I am working backwards in my inbox, and found this post in there.

The centre I gather that seems to use the glucose side of things with

finetuning the most is in Portland Oregon.

How old is Mia again? Trying to figure out the 1000cals again in relation to

her age.

She may have lost some lean muscle mass whilst catabolic, which will slow her

metabolism down till she comes back up to speed. But yes, her glucose may still

be on the rise if in response to stress.

Giving a protein slant (ie, keeping the same ratio but reducing carbs and

upping protein) can sometimes backfire, in that protein in excess of her RDA can

quickly convert to glucose - like even more so than straight carbohydrate, so

this one can be a bit of a problem, but as with most things on the diet -

doesn't seem to happen with all children, and can be a matter of having to 'try

it and see'.

The scales are still giving no clue one way or another weight wise? A ree dx

would be just what she needs about now, is that out of your reach as well as the

DEXA scan?
