Guest guest
After reading the posts a little while ago about shampoo, I realized that mine has various wheat-derived things in it, such as hydrolyzed wheat protein. And, I started paying attention to how much of that stuff really does seep into my mouth when I use it! (Maybe I need to stop singing in the shower!) I was wondering if anyone can suggest a GF fragrance-free shampoo that they might be using. I react to fragrances, except for some essential oils. Fragrance-free shampoos are very hard to find. If it is a more natural brand, that is a plus, as I also do better with less-chemical-smelling products. Thanks! Lori

We both use conditioner (mine homemade, his is burt's bees, which has EOs providing scent so I can't use it) and apple cider vinegar rinses. There are some fragrance-free shampoos, but I'm allergic to the natural ingredients and preservatives. I think Magick Botanicals has one. For a less natural line, look at the body care products offered by National Allergy Supply. I haven't tried those, either. ygg
Guest guest
Hello all - I just got my latest issue of " Gluten-Free Living " in the mail today. Ann Whalen wrote a very interesting article about the possibility of getting glutened by cosmetic products such as shampoo or conditioner, even lotion. I recommend every celiac reads it. She talked to the most knowledgeable (regarding DH) Dr in the US, and he asked his colleagues, and they all agreed that it isn't possible to be glutened by something we use outside our body. The article says that even if we put our hands in our mouths after touching hair conditioner, for instance, the part of wheat that is in the conditioner isn't the protein, so it can't affect our intestines. Also, that the wheat protein can't absorb through the skin, as the molecule is too large. It all makes sense when she says it, very interesting. Ann Whalen does good research for " Gluten-Free Living " , I recommend it. Guest guest
Haven't seen the article yet, but if she is quoting Dr. P. Green, I believe both she and he are wrong. No, I do not claim putting hand lotion on your hand will gluten you - but putting hand lotion - my former one listed " wheat protein " as an ingredient, and then preparing food can definitely result in the consumption of gluten containing lotion. Is that enough gluten to harm you? Don't know, but I do know that there were times when I could taste lotion on food - and if I could taste, I was ingesting it. And, yes, it is definitely possible to be glutened by lipstick - been there, done that. Maureen > > Hello all - > > I just got my latest issue of " Gluten-Free Living " in > the mail today. Guest guest
Thank you, ygg! You gave me some great suggestions. I can tolerate some of Burt’s Bees stuff, so I will see will see if they have shampoo and what’s in it, and also check out the others you mention. I appreciate it! Lori PS. I notice your email address contains “cowpuppies”: do you, by any chance, have Australian Cattle Dogs? (A lot of people call them cow dogs for short.) I have two ACD/Border Collie mixes that I adore. > After reading the posts a little while ago about shampoo, I > realized that mine has various wheat-derived things in it, such as > hydrolyzed wheat protein.
