Guest guest
Make sure she is getting enough vitamins and minerals, and I think zinc is a biggie? hair problem My daughter Alice has been on the diet for 10monthes. She had some up and downs on the diet. We now got seizure control with Dilantin and Depakote on board. We have noticed her hair thing for a while. Her hair is very dry and yellow(her hair used to be black and shinny), with no shine--very malnutrition look. I wonder if it is common for our keto kids to have this kind of hair? Or maybe because of those drugs? Can we do something to improve the hair quality? Thank you for your suggestion, " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort! Guest guest
And biotin and selenium I think? There are prob quite a few other posts about this one in the archives if you use the word hair as a search word . Depakote is one that definitely causes hair problems with , and being on both dep and the diet has certainly changed his over the past few yrs... Cammie told me recently that depakote can deplete zinc (and the biotin and selenium I think) and as the diet has been described as possibly working under similar mechanisms to depakote, those kiddies on both are probably getting a double whammy. Might pay to have those zinc, biotin, and selenium blood levels checked, just in case she he is deficient in any of them. 's last zinc blood level came back as low, so we are looking at boosting his supplement, as low levels can also contribute to slowed growth, and is going through that again as well..... ----- Original Message ----- > Make sure she is getting enough vitamins and minerals, and I think zinc is a biggie? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: emilyqtang > My daughter Alice has been on the diet for 10monthes. Guest guest
I'll confirm 's answer, look at supplementing with biotin, selenium and zinc. Our daughter went through this twice. The first time we added extra zinc and biotin. Her hair grew back but half of her bangs/fringe would not grow. About a year later we quit supplementing with the biotin and zinc due to her ratio being low (about 1.5) and her hair once again began falling out. We presently live in Australia and could not find a biotin supplement without dye and other " stuff " in it that triggered seizures. We did not restart the zinc We decided to try giving her selenium. Her hair has grown back nicely (the best yet since starting the diet) and all of her bangs have been growing. She has been taking the selenium for about a year. We have not supplemented with any extra biotin or zinc. But, after reading 's post on low levels of zinc causing poor growth I'm wondering if our daughter might benefit from extra zinc for her growth has been slow on the diet. Guest guest
Poor quality hair and especially falling out is common on the diet. It usually starts a few months after starting as the stores of minerals are depleted. It is necessary to add extra vitamins and minerals. We added selenium and use CAL-MAG-ZINC III. Some people also add zinc and other trace minerals. Bill emilyqtang wrote: > My daughter Alice has been on the diet for 10monthes. She had some > up and downs on the diet.
