Guest guest
Ellen .. I know how difficult and scary being on a ventilator can be .. I've been there .. oh .. and if you get ill again .. get someone to call me on the phone so I can let the group know .. we do care about you .. you know? Did the doctors send you home with any " toys " to blow into .. one is where you blow into a mouthpiece and little balls go up the tube .. or one where you suck in and try to get the toy to whistle? They are physical therapy toys to help strengthen your lungs. They really helped me.. if they didn't give you any, ask your doctor for them. If money is an issue .. you can make " toys " .. a straw and some pieces of paper about the size of a quarter .. try to pick up the paper pieces by putting the straw on top of the paper and sucking to pick the paper up.. or you can try blowing up balloons .. that is another way to help. I know that being in bed for so long makes your muscles very weak. Are you having any problems with cramping in your legs? Massage them with lotion .. it will help keep the muscles from getting too " mushy " by increasing the circulation and will help with that " weak " feeling. The lotion will help in two ways .. it will make it easier to massage, and if you use one that smells good, it is a type of aroma therapy and may help you feel better mentally. Another good therapy for stengthening your muscles and will help with dexterity and balance as well .. throw a few cotton balls on the floor and sit near them.. pick up the cotton balls with your toes and place them in a bowl just by using your toes. Good luck .. hugs..
