Major Flare

Hi all,

I'm finally at the end of my most major flare to date. I've never

had one quite this bad. High fever, muscle cramping so bad I could

barely breathe, walk, etc...for days. I'm sure you all know the

drill. Called my wonderful Rheumy at home over the weekend and he

took me off Methotrexate and started me on the 13 day steroid cycle

to get me out of this one.

He's starting me on Azathioprine. Anyone know what that is? I'm

assuming it's like Plaquenil since he said I'll have to take it for a

while to feel any difference.

I'm going to go back to work tomorrow. Woke up today with no fever,

but know I need to rest today. Haven't eaten a real meal for 4 days,

so I'm weak too. It's all so fun isn't it?

This one really scared me. I think it hit home that someday I might

not be able to work...and what would that mean? The question is

still rolling around in my mind, but I don't think I'm ready to start

addressing it yet. Too much fear in the way.

I must go try and eat something.

Azathioprine or imuran is usually give to patients with transplants and it

helps reject the transplant. It is also given to lupus patients. I was on

imuran for about 3 (if I remember correctly) years. It was when I was

diagnosed 17 years ago. I did not get much side effects, there were just a

few: a weird taste in my mouth, getting bloated and having an upset stomach.

It was no major thing though. I know they checked my liver enzymes on a

regular basis. I hope it helps you to get better.
