Hey all -- I'm looking for some info & thought you guys may have it

tucked back somewhere. I would like some info on the MCT oil diet. Is

anyone using it? Is there any articles out there that does a good

comparison?

Thanks!

When Mike started the diet 3 years ago, we started on the MCT version and within

a week he got sick and threw up every day at least once. We then switched him

to the MCT/cream diet, which still uses MCT oil as the primary fat source. He

took to it very well and the vomitting stopped within a day. We have been able

to increase the MCT oil as needed without any trouble as he is now used to it.

There are two big differences between the 'classical diet' and the MCT version.

1) the numbers of carbs allowed are WAY higher 20 the MCT diet works on

percentages not ratios.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I will answer whatever

questions I can :)

Hi Kathy,

There is a trial going on in the UK at the moment mainly at Great

Ormond Street Hospital where they are seeing if there is any

difference between the classical and MCT. Have a look on the Great

Ormond Street site and the latest details should be on there - but

saying that you will probably get far more expert advice from the

US!!! (We are a tad behind on things - way behind actually!)

My is on the classical and has been for 2 years now, although

just recently I am increasing the MCT oil and am going to be changing

him over to the MCT diet - there is a lot more choice on the MCT

version and it appears a lot easier to manage, but I have just gone

through 2 years of classical!!! I think it's less restrictive -

others may disagree and find it just as challenging as the classical

version.

Good luck.

Emma.

Mum to - ketokid since July 2002 - going great guns and is

med free, enjoying his life without daily seizures.
