My son was originally diagnosed with gelastic seizures because he first

presented with laughter in his sleep as well. Most gelastics are caused

by a small tumor in the hypothalamus called a hypothalic hamartoma.

This used to be inoperable but now is not. Surgery was pioneered in

Australia and is now performed at Barrow's Neurological Institute in

Arizona. If you need any more information on gelastics caused by HH,

check out the HHUGS website. It is amazing! My son did not have HH and

his seizures happened to be focal and go by the laughing part of the

brain. At times I wished it was HH so we could operate and potentially

cure his seizures. If anyone needs more info or Doctor contacts at

Barrows, please let me know!!
