I'll be having MGB with Dr.Rutledge on May 5th..My question is

regarding my return to work. After reading posts, attending support

groupmmeetings as well as clinic with Dr.R ,when my date was decided

I asked off for a week only,just in case of problems,which I don't

forsee, but due to the fact that I work 3rd.shift alone ,my supervisor

incessed that I take 2 weeks as this was major surgery. My next

question is I'm a telephone operator and usually keep a cup of water

at my station at all times to keep my mouth and throat from becoming

so dry,how will I do that now and also regarding meals once I'm on

solids again,I sleep usually from around 8a.m. until about 3p.m.,then

get up do things that need doing and depending on if I'm still tired

or sleepy lay back down until 10 or 10:15 then go to work.My concern

is getting everything in that I need ( vitamins, protein, foods, liuids)

durning those hours or will I need to use an alarm to wake up every

couple of hours? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have the paid leave available, why not take it? If you feel great

after surgery take the time to start an exercise routine, visit friends, do

some spring cleaning or something. If you can keep a container of water by

your desk to sip on, you can keep Gatorade or a protein shake to sip on post

op. And with the kind of energy alot of post ops have after they get

themselves going, you just might not need that nap at 10 before work. ;-)

I've never heard of anyone needing an alarm to wake up to take carafate or

anything. Granted, I haven't had the surgery, but I think all of us preops

have planned out our eating " strategies " that we'll need after surgery. :-)

Maybe as you go through your next work day, just think consciously of those

times that allow you to take a bit of something here and there, walk

yourself through a day as if you were post op. Keep a container of Mylanta

or even water as a " representative " of your Carafate and just do everything

as you would do if you were post op. From the supplement charts, you could

rearrange the times to fit your topsy turvy schedule and see where things

fit. You have a couple of weeks to practice. Good luck. :-)
