Guest guest
Hello All, We have our first appointment with a GI this Thursday and are unsure of which battery of lab tests we should ask him to run? (Our son is 25 months old and has a working diagnosis of PDD NOS, Apraxia, and Sensory Integration Disorder.) We are trying to get to the bottom of his persistent loose stool problem and frequent yeasty diaper rashes. We think he may also be gluten sensitive, but we are just not sure and want the GI to run the full gamut of tests on him to rule everything out, including any nutritional deficiencies. Which tests should we make sure the doctor orders? Any help would be most appreciated---Holly

Guest guest
Thanks so much, Deborah. That was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Could you also possibly tell me a little about how your appt. went with your GI. Did you ask them to run these tests on your son when you first went in there, or did the doctor order the lab tests without your prodding? What is your son's diagnosis/age/ symptoms etc... that prompted you to go to a GI, if you don't mind my asking. Any further guidance you could give us so we will get the most out of this appt. will be very enthusiastically received :-) Thanks so much for your help-----Holly >From: Deborah is <deborah_baccan@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Re: [ ] Appt. w/ GI THIS Thursday!--which tests >to order? >Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 09:10:39 -0800 (PST) > >Hi Holly, > > Here is the list of tests we ran on my son: > - Thyroid Panel (T3, T4, TSH) > - Amino Acids (Plasma) > - 90-Food IgG Antibodies test (serum) > - Urinalysis > - Organic Acid Test (OAT-Urine) > - Comprehensive Microbial/Digestive Stool Analysis - check for yeast >infec. > - Complete Metabolic Panel > - Screen for CBC > - Food Allergy Milk (RAST) > - Celiac Panel > - ADEK (fat soluble vitamins) > - Carnitine Levels > - Acylcarnitine Level > - Vitamin B Levels > > His Pediatrician has ordered some more in 1 month: > - Free T4 > - TSH > - CBC c diff > - Myelin Basic Protein IgG, IgA, IgM > > I hope this helps! > > Deborah > > >hollyjoydavis01 <hollyjoydavis01@...> wrote: > Hello All, > >We have our first appointment with a GI this Thursday and are unsure >of which battery of lab tests we should ask him to run? Guest guest
Hi Holly, Maybe I am respondiong a little too late, but these tests were ordered by his regular Pediatrician, she referred us to the GI Dr. because his Celiac Panel had some abnormalities, so she wanted to run further tests. The good thing that we found out is that my son had very low levels of Carnitine, which you may have read, is dangerous, and we are now supplementing w/ a prescription. is 5, Apraxic, low muscle tone, Dispraxic, drooling, (his Sensory Int. issues went away with Vit. E), alergic to Milk. I have scheduled an appt with a Nutritionist at the end of December, to discuss his current supplements, and maybe add some more, also we are going to see a Metabolic Endocrinologist in January to check for Malabsorption issues (referred by the GI). Feel free to ask me if you have any other ??? Good luck! Deborah Holly <hollyjoydavis@...> wrote: Thanks so much, Deborah. That was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Guest guest
Thanks, Deborah. After our appointment today, we too have been referred to a Nutritionist as well, and the GI has already ordered a large amount of lab tests, most of what you had done with your son, and I'm going to ask our Developmental Pediatrician to make up the difference so we can get everything done at one time to minimize the invasive procedures. Haven't had any mention of a Metabolic Endocrinologist yet, but that's probably next on the agenda, who knows? I'll be interested to hear how everything goes for your little guy, and we will keep you posted on our end as well. Thanks again for your help---Holly
