Guest guest
Hi- my name is Jen. I am another new member. I don't have any specific questions right now...but I hope to read and learn some new information. Some background. I have two kids with speech issues. Austin is 4. He began having Infantile Spasms seizures at 16 months and lost virtually all his speech. It's been a long road filled with therapy. He is essentially on track for speech now, but still has some other delays as a result of the Epilepsy. Connor is almost 3 and a twin. He has PDD-NOS. Because of all I had been through with Austin, I realized at about 15 months that he had delays. He had an Early Intervention eval and began ST and special ed services at 22 months. He was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at 26 months. Since then he has transitioned from EI into an integrated classroom setting. Our biggest problem is the globalization of his skills. The school keeps telling me he is only using 1-2 word utterances. We get markedly more than that at home, BUT the intelligibility is very low. I know he is talking but we just can't understand what he is saying. This is very frustrating for him and us. I am unsure of how to help him. I am hoping you all have lots of advice to give, although I wish I had found this group years ago! Jen mom to Austin, Ben & Connor P.S. Hi ...sorry I am 'using' your post as a springboard for mine!
