I´m new here and wonder about avocados being legal at the

SCD-diet.

Elaine Gottschalk states, Inulin and fructooligosaccharides in

general are bad, because they probably don´t only feed good

bacteria

in the gut... (Quote: " Many different species of yeast are able to

utilize Inulin/FOS for energy. " )

From what I know avocados contain fructooligosaccharides, especially

Mannoheptulose, which has similar properties like Inulin. See:

http://tortech.com.au/nutrition/avocado.html : " Avocados are the

richest known natural source of the unusual (=seven-carbon sugar D-

manno-heptulose [simon and Kracier 1996; Otaga et al. 1972]. This

sugar in avocados is usually accompanied by perseitol, another sugar

only present in avocado.. This sugar possesses the physiological

ability to cause inhibition of insulin secretion in humans, thereby

possibly producing " instant diabetes " (low insulin, hence higher

blood sugar) [simon and Kracier 1996]. "

My question: Are avocados really allowed on the SCD-diet? Has anyone

experienced bad side effects consuming avocados?

Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is Elaine's response to your post:

" Many foods contain some amounts of FOS. I have no concern

of these minuscule amounts found in whole fruits and

vegetables and would recommend that you continue to feed this

marvelous food with no reservations.

However, isolating FOS and putting it into a probiotic is another

story is in stark contradiction to the entire basis of SCD. "

Hope that helps.
