What can I drink of thin out to get KT> that fiber percentage up? Two things. There are various fiber powders you can mix with juice or water. Metamucil is one, but there are many others. My wife uses the Costco version. I occasionally take a SMALL amount of milk of magnesia. The bottle tells you to take quite a bit as a laxative, but I take a small amount, like a tablespoon or so, and it usually works for me. One other change for me is that in general, since banding, I'm having much less frequent bowel movements than before. Makes sense, since I'm not eating near as much, and not eating near as much greasy and fatty food, which tend to go thru me fairly quickly. I don't really care how often I go, and it is often only every second or third day. As long as I don't get constipated I don't care. Final change in all this is the tummytuck. I've been going to bathroom much more freuqently since then, both types, and what the doc explained makes perfect sense.....since he tightend up all the muscles and removed all the " expansion room " it has to exit sooner than it used to, since it sure can't expand into all that " loose flab " area that used to be there. The TT has also affected my eating, since I guess the intestines push up on the stomach some and there is overall less room inside. Suppose it is like having some sort of girdle or other similar garment on. dan Dan Lester, Boise, ID honu@... www.mylapband.tk Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana, 4/28/03 323/211/199 Age
Guest guest
What would your mom say? Prune juice! It really works. A glass a day, or 2-3 stewed or soft prunes is good fiber and vits. Once you're back on regular foods, it will be a lot easier. Benefiber also has a ne chewable, in addition to the powder. Fiber cereals and whole grain crackers, after you are back on regular food, are the key, plus the fiber in good veggies and fruit choices. Guest guest
Oh Sandy, you know NOT what you ask;-) My dear mother would say enema;-D Probably why I rarely listened to her LOL... Sis I can't stand prune juice and am seriously afraid I'd get sick to my stomach if I drank it. DH got me some of those metamucil fiber boards (er, I mean wafers;-) that Dan recommended last night and I softened them in my mouth with some skim milk, chewed tiny bites to mush then drank 8 oz of water afterwards. They are 120 calories but I had that plus some in the fit day bank available;-) I told DH I could think of MUCH better ways to spend 120 calories to get fiber..such as cereals, veggies, fruit but I've still got another week on liquids so hopefully this will DO me until then. I took some white moist chicken meat with chicken broth and pureed it in the blender yesterday. It was soup consistency and I added some thinned out mash taters on the side of the bowl. Both chicken and taters together were less than 1/2 cup..but I knew I was getting that feeling of being full so I stopped eating at half of that. I really like this band, even though I've yet to have a fill I think I have some restriction because I ate dinner at 6pm and by 11 I was still pleasantly satisfied. I took the opportunity to drink 6 more oz. of water before turning in for the night, I remember to do this every night because I'd read it's good to wash out the pouch prior to bed, helps keep any reflux down. Also just seems like a good thing to do, like brushing ones teeth before bed;-D Kem in Eugene 286/273/150 Dr. Neal 8.6.04 <º)))>< << Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2004 23:40:06 -0000 From: " Sandy " <MoonshadowRN@...> Subject: Re: Fiber question What would your mom say? Guest guest
yes. I've done it, but would rather get my fiber in other ways. I still don't understand how some of those " clear fiber " drinks really have fiber in them, but they do. Main thing is to be sure to drink a LOT of water, have it more dilute than they say to...to eliminate any chance of anything getting stuck like can happen with other fiber things like the metamucil cookies. dan Monday, January 16, 2006, 11:43:32 AM, you wrote: MBY> Can I drink water mixed with psyllium? Guest guest
No, because by adding food you are going to get into calorie issues. Leave the fiber meal as is and be glad you have it to make you feel more full. It also helps slow the carb absorption avoiding blood sugar spikes. Guest guest
Hi I have read this archive before. I tried the POM wonderful with Landon for about a week. I would fill up his cup 3/4 full of POM and then top it off with Sunny Delight to hide the bitter taste. He drank it, but it didn't help him stay regular at the time. He doesn't mind the pear nectar. I do the same thing with the pear nectar. He was doing good. We were only having trouble once a month for just a couple of days at a time. This last time was horrible! For 3 weeks, he would have 2 or 3 good days and then it would be 3 days without a bowel movement. This week it was 5 days with lots of medicine that should have helped him to go. I believe he is cleaned out now (8 poopie diapers in one day). He better be cleaned out! I read about Tanner regressing on too much fiber so I was nervous about that when his Ped. suggested more. I don't use the prescription med. often. I really don't like the thought of him being on it. Perhaps now that he is cleaned out, maybe the POM plus the pear nectar would work and keep him regular. I have thought about taking him to the GI doctor in Florida you mentioned. We usually go to FL once or twice a year to see family. Guest guest
Hi Thank you for responding. I haven't read any information on magnesium citrate or Vitamin C helping. I will do some reading on it. Guest guest
Good Evening, My daughter had a problem with going to the bathroom for a BM everyday until I gave her Ground Flax Seed in her oatmeal in the morning. We have not had a problem since. Hope that helps someone. Bonnye - Faith's mommy trmckenna1 <trmckenna1@...> wrote: Hi I have read this archive before. Thanks again Tina
