as a result of the DAN conference, Dr. Neubrander wants to put my son on

acyclovir (an anti-viral) and ACTOS (he said it may decrease inflammation in the

brain). does anyone have any expereince with these drugs or advise....ACTOS has

some serious side effects and i'm a little reluctant...does anyone remember it

being discussed at the DAN conference?

thanks so much in advance.

I don't have any experience with acyclovoir and ACTOS, but I do have Dr.

Neubrander as a doctor. My experience with him is that he usually doesn't

recomend anything unless he really thinks it will help his patients. We have

discussed chelation with him and he thinks that will be able to get

better without chelation. That said... I'm the kind of person who usually shuns

drugs (won't even take a tylenol for headaches) and I would still research the

drug before giving it to my children and ask Dr. N some straightforward

questions (I would even write them down... he seems to answer the written

questions better).

I'm sorry I can't be more help.

Kim,

I am currently on the acyclovir ointment for a herpes zoster rash on my arm.

I didn't take it for the longest time, because I'm not much of a drug

person. Then I found out that this virus could possibly make it's way to my

brain and wreak all sorts of havoc. Needless to say, I filled the

prescription! It is working wonderfully, and my rash is MUCH better. No side

effects, but I don't know what would happen if I took it orally. All that to

say that my experience with this drug has been good. HTH.

I am not sure of ACTOS but the acycclovir has been the best treament

for my son. My son is also 8 1/2 and after acyclovir worked we moved

to valtrex.
