Guest guest
Oh no. We're not missing the vomiting. Right now he's vomiting up about one of every three meals we give him. He's also got terrible congestion in his nose which I just read is a sign of reflux as well. Denis only developed these symptoms when he started the diet. Has anyone else had that experience? If so, what can we do???? I definitely do NOT want to give up the diet as so far we have not seen any seizures since we started (knock wood). Could it be a sign of too high ketones (his tab is almost always black)? Denis has also been terribly constipated. Could that be causing it? Any information or advice would be most welcome. I'm really afraid his doctor will suggest a G-tube which I most definitely don't want. --Kasey, mother of Denis, 2.5 years > >> > >>>Does anyone else have the problem of their child having too much > >>>mucous in the throat? Guest guest
Constipation can definitely result in vomiting, pain, seizures and ending the diet. Treat that aggresively. That being said, with the small volume of food on the diet, having bowel movements every 3 or 4 days is not unusual either. Try adding magnesium. It will also help with reflux. If you haven't seen seizures since starting the diet, you will want to work hard to stay on it. The G-tube would only be necessary if he can't be hydrated. Keep the fluids up especially with vomiting. The ketones may also appear very high if fluids are low. You can give a bit of apple juice if the ketones are too high. Keep up the good work. We had all these things; vomiting, reflux, constipation and more. It is very common on the diet at the beginning. Bill kcv wrote: > > Oh no. We're not missing the vomiting. Guest guest
My son is 3 months into the diet and we introduced polycitra K 2 weeks ago to help offset the acidity that may cause vomiting. Although he did still vomit in the middle of the night 2 days ago. Is there anything else that can be done to prevent stomach aches and vomiting? ~ Re: Re: Mucous/Reflux Constipation can definitely result in vomiting, pain, seizures and ending the diet. Guest guest
Raise the head of the bed. Give soda water after the meal. Guest guest
Sydney seems to have refulx too, I think? When she lays down she swallows so hard her throat makes a growling sound. I only notice it when she lays down. She has only had the mucus once that I know of, last week she spit up 7 times before noon, it was a bright yellow slime...??? NO oder, no chunks (sorry to be so descriptive). Is this what you guys are speeking of? I have not mentioned this to the Dr. ? Is there anything they can do? Is it worth it? She has only spit up the one day, but has the loud swallows every night. Will this damage her esophagous? Thanks Dina Momma to Sydney, age 3 1/2...Dravet's Syndrome, very poor control... > >>>>> > >>>>> > >>>>> > >>>>>>Does anyone else have the problem of their child having too much > >>>>>>mucous in the throat? Guest guest
Dina, the yellow slime sounds similar to what Denis seems to have in his throat. He has an almost constant rattling when he breathes. I've been told this is fairly common among kids with cerebral palsey. Their chest muscles are weak. Our pediatrician told us anytime we can get him to spit up the mucous is great. Now for some closure to my original post. Thanks for all the advice. It's been very helpful. A few nights ago, I elevated Denis' mattress in his bed and he seems to be sleeping a bit better. Two days ago, we FINALLY got a stool out of Denis after longer than I can even bear to write. The vomiting immediately stopped. He began to eat with enthusiasm and his sleeping pattern improved. So the reflux was almost surely caused by the constipation. I'm still waiting on his dietician to advise me about what kind of magnesium supplement we can give. (We live in Europe.) If I don't hear back from her soon, I think I'm going to take it upon myself to order one of the ones mentioned in the Freeman book over the internet. Thanks again for all the support! --Kasey, mother of Denis, 2.5 years > > >>>>> > > >>>>> > > >>>>> > > >>>>>>Does anyone else have the problem of their child having too > much > > >>>>>>mucous in the throat?
