Guest guest
Hi all. I still need to catch up with everyone on my experience for the month of June at the Chiari Center. Please forgive my tardiness. My question that I forgot to ask the Neuro Surgeons, is once the incision site is healed and free from infection, what are the best remedies to reduce the scar at the nape of the neck? I understand there is a new silicon strip you can place over the area and it's supposed to reduce all visual aspects by a great percentage. I won't do anything until I speak with my DR. on this matter, but I was very curious if anyone has success in reducing their scars. Thanks again, Ana in AL. - AKA Jackie ACM / 20+ mm / No assoc. I've been told that vitamin E or Aloe will reduce the scar... but why would you want to reduce it ? I wear mine like a battle scar. I wish I would have smeared blue or red ink on it so it would stand out better Chip
Guest guest
Vit. E does wonders for scars!!! (speaking from personal experience with c-section incision and scar on my neck in the front). It's worth a try and I most certainly plan to apply vitamin e to my incision area as soon as I am allowed to. Guest guest
Ana, there is a product on the market called Mederma that is for scars, burns, stretch marks, etc. It helps to reduce the appearance of them. It's recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists. It is rather expensive. Wal-Mart has it but you have to ask the pharmicist for it because it's kept behind the counter. You don't need a prescription. I had my surgery almost a year ago and you can't see my scar. my hair covers it completely and I wear a short flippy hair do. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Well said Chip! I go back and forth about letting my hair grow for the benefit of others but have now decided to stick with what I've always had, #2 all over. in Big D Re: Post Op question and scar reduction............. > what are the best remedies to reduce > the scar at the nape of the neck? Guest guest
Let em see it!!!!!!!!! Re: Re: Post Op question and scar reduction............. > I wear mine like a battle scar. I have very short hair and the incision is still very visible. It doesn't bother me, but I don't have to look at it. What do ya'll think about covering/or not covering it when I return to work? Would this be a courtesy to my co-workers or won't they mind? __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I am right with you there Chip - this is our victory wound! But also if you want to help it fade, you could apply MSM cream to it. Of course I cannot remember what MSM stands for but I have used it on scars from spots and it did help them fade. > >To: chiari >Subject: Re: Post Op question and scar reduction............. >Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 01:27:33 -0000 > > > > what are the best remedies to reduce > > the scar at the nape of the neck? > > > I've been told that vitamin E or Aloe will reduce the scar... but >why would you want to reduce it ? > >I wear mine like a battle scar.
