Adding gluten back in to diet for testing

I've been adding gluten back in my diet now for 9 days. I have to eat

it for one month before I go in for testing. The arthritis that I

previously suffered with is coming back, and so is the fatigue. I

found that if I take colace every day my stomach doesn't cramp and

fell as distended. I have 3 more weeks to go on this gluten diet, I'm

afraid that I'll be in so much pain from arthritis that I'll not be

able to walk by then. But, at least I'll be able to get a diagnosis

as to whether or not gluten is what is causing me to have rheumatoid

arthritis. None of my blood work turns up positive for R.A. but the

MRI of my joints show multiple erosions due to inflammatory

arthritis. The Rheumatologist says he's never seen someone with so

much joint damage not show anything on blood tests for R.A. Does any

body else have R.A. with gluten diet? Are you pain free on a gluten

free diet too?

I was never officially dx with RA but my doctor at the time said he 'thought' I

may have it but was dx with osteoarthritis and FM and since goign gluten free,

my pain is at a managable level. I rarely use vicodin anymore and don't wake up

in pain like I used to.

I wasn't diagnosed with it, but it was one of the things they looked to check before the Celiac was diagnosed. One of my major gluten symptoms is joint pain. It's gone as long as I don't get glutened.

I am sorry that you are having to go back on gluten to get a positive

diagnosis, that must be miserable for you. I hope that you can get a

good diagnosis though.

Joint pain was nearly my only symptom. I had very little GI problems,

at least that is what I thought but as GF goes on there are some

positive GI differences. I was seeing a rheumatologist because he and

my doc thought I had RA for the last 18 months but all the tests kept

coming back negative as did the inflammation tests. A couple of months

ago I mentioned that occasionally my joint pain would get worse in the

middle of a meal and he thought of celiacs. 2 out of 5 blood tests

came back positive and the biopsy was positive.

I have been GF for about 4-5 weeks and have only seen minor

differences in my joint pain. I am really hoping that my joint pain

will go away with being GF. Yesterday I thought I had made a major

break through but the pain all came back today. Do you recall how

long it took for you to have decreased joint pain?

I also had joint pain while eating gluten. I was diagnosed with Lupus

3 months after going gluten-free, as my pain did not subside once my

diet changed. I've been gluten-free for about 9 months, and on meds

for Lupus for about 5 months. While it has gotten a little bit

better, I still suffer daily with stiff joints after a day at work. I

can't wait for the day that it's gone for good!

It only took a few days for me to notice a difference. In a month or two I was pain free for the first time in a long time!!! Like others though, I have other issues that I still deal with. I have severe endometriosis so at certain times I deal with abdominal and back pain (other than cramps). It was hard at first to differentiate the two but now I know they are distinctly different and treated differently. Hang in there - it does get better!

You might consider supplementing with some Essential

Oils (Omega3/6/9) and ALA (Alpha lineolic acid). It

helps my joint stiffness.
