Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I signed on a while ago, in hopes to be of support. My daughter was on the ketogenic diet and it was a miracle for her. Last week we had follow ups with her doctors. While visiting with the neurologist we talked about something; during one of 's hospitalizations the IV solution given to her was DEXTROSE. Dextrose is NOT ketogenic friendly. She was seizure free at the time and her seizures returned, it took over a year to get her seizure free again. Another parent that I email, who has a child on the ketogenic diet had the same thing happen, just a few weeks ago. Her little one was not seizure free, but much improved on the diet. There was an increase in seizure activity. I spoke to our neurologist and asked what could be done. He is working on a plan to get the information out to his patients. Most of you 'ketogenic experts' probably already know that dextrose is not keto friendly, but for the ones that don't I thought this might be note worthy. Saline is an IV solution which is ketogenic friendly. ette
