Guest guest
We have used Pro Efa by Nordic Naturals but we've stopped b/c I'm afraid to right now and we do use DHA omega by Nordic Naturals . It helps with his speech. We did use Udos oil which has borage, flax and fish oil for atleast 2 years on keto and he did not react with seizures but I would be careful esp with pro efa because of risks with seizures. It is very concentrated. Just my 2 cents
Guest guest
Can you get a fish oil supplement without borage oil? Like I said, I am fairly ignorant on this stuff, just wondered if you always have to get the oils mixed together like that one you are looking at. I have never gone down this path with , too busy worying about the diet/meds issues I guess. Has lost any weight yet after starting the carn? Or is he still stuck in the same place? If you think the carn showed initial benefits, maybe keep inching it up? No, sadly nowhere near the 150 mg dep mark with - I stopped the bigger 50 mg decreases once his carn levels started improving, went back to the cautious approach and have been plodding on with 25 mg ones instead, so a long road ahead still. Currently on 275 mgs, so we're nearly halfway there from the original 500 mg dose. Yes, status quo as in no seizure activity still - haven't had an EEG confirming that though, but he is no diff outwardly that would make me suspect anything was going on. And no nasty seizure noises thru the intercom at night either. So I think he's handling the wean ok, patient hat on etc... ----- Original Message ----- From: michelle paulson Hey there - Good to hear from you - I've been MIA lately - rarely on the computer for whatever reason. Thanks so much for the head's up on the borage oil. Never would have come across that info. I'm interested in the benefits of the omega 3/6's for more than one reason - of course, it's heart healthy and would be a great compliment to the diet - but lately, I've been concerned about 's lack of speech and really --regression. Reader's digest version - I'm sure he has apraxia - makes sense w/his inconsistencies w/production of words, oral motor problems and motor planning issues. Read that supplementing w/fish oil helps in some cases. Since it's a healthy supplement - figured it wouldn't hurt. I think I'll try it but will go ever so slow - just as we did w/the Carnitor. Yes - is status quo (knock wood). Seizures are definitely minimal but not gone. Questioning how much the diet is truly working b/c he has seizures during times of high and low ketones and it drives me crazy that I can't get a handle on it. Really am thinking that he has seizures when he just doesn't feel 100%. May end up reducing his ratio after the first of the year to see how he does - I'm at a loss as to how to fine tune to get 100% seizure free status. Oh... about the B6 dosage - our neuro. started him on B6 initially just before starting the diet. Wondered about a pyrodoxine dependency so thought supplementing would be a natural approach to testing his theory. We initially truly believed it helped w/myoclonic jerks so we increased the dosage. Never saw any dramatic improvement but continued b/c of the benefits - especially given his lack of vitamins on the diet. Mainly, it supports GABA production - utilizes food for energy, and helps maintain a normal magnesium level. Obviously, there are many more advantages but pertaining to the diet, those are the ones I remember. How is and the wean going? I believe you should be down to at least 150mg. and maybe even lower. I'm assuming everything is still status quo for as well? I know he just had a b'day - I'm SURE it was much more fun than his last b'day so I know he must have done lots of celebrating!!!!! Thanks, again for your insightful information - you never cease to amaze me w/your wealth of knowledge! HUGS!
Guest guest
Does have complex partials? Looks to me like that is the seizure type mentioned most with any adverse reports, and only has generalised seizures, but I am such a chicken these days I can't see myself trying any of the oils on him in the near future, 'just in case'. Have you tried carnosine there? I think I remember you as being one that posted about it a while ago? I haven't gone down that road either, but have heard good things about improved cognition and speech. ----- Original Message ----- From: lloydandleslie@...
