Barb, anyone? - keppra

Hi Barb - jumping in here for someone else who isn't on this list, but I

wondered what sort of B6 dose the neuro recommends? They too are facing some

behaviour issues with keppra with their son, and I dug up an article for them

about the B6 sometimes reducing this side effect, but couldn't find recommended

dosing details etc.

Any info anyone else has on this one would be appreciated too,

Thanks

I hope it helps. Watch for behavioral issues, common on Keppra. Best to

start the med slowly, that way you can hopefully avoid this to some extent.

My son is 9 and 60lbs and is just taking 1 1/4 tablet per day, though is max

dose is something like 1000mg, he's on a much smaller amount. Any higher

and we get yelling, biting and irritability.

My other neuro also tells me that she's had success w/ avoiding behavior

problems for some kids if they take B6 along with Keppra. She starts them on

that first, then adds the Keppra. It didn't work for my son but has worked

for others. Might be worth a try.

Will you try to wean one med once you get going on the Keppra? Might be

worth suggesting, esp. if he's on large doses of the others.

Good luck.

Hi ,

I think my neuro recommended starting at 50mg, does that sound reasonable?

I guess it might for Jake's size, not sure about other kids. He doesn't do

well with vitamin supplements, still can't figure that one out....so we

tried for a week or two then quit, seizures seemed to be worse. Go figure.

Thanks Barb, will pass it on.

I am not up on any of the vitamin doses, so not sure how that 50 mgs of B6

pans out, I just do what my dietician tells me when it comes to :)
