Guest guest Posted September 22, 2006 Report Share Posted September 22, 2006 Well, actually, the article says "The Boston-based Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development estimates that it takes a decade or more and costs more than $800 million to bring a new drug to market." So it shouldn't be at least another decade, they've already been at it for a while so it should be less than a decade. If they are at the testing phase, in fact, it should be much less than that if the testing all goes well. Wow..... They have diddled about with this sort of medication here, and found too many side effects to proclaim it safe. Im not really happy having to eat "different" from so many others, but would rather be different (and a bit difficult) than have side effects from the wonder drug de jour... My son is the Celiac, and even if the drug were ready for mass consumption tomorrow I would make him wait several years before getting it for him. There have been too many drugs lately that have even worse side-effects discovered after consistent, long-term use that I am leary as well and would wait. But, that doesn't make me any less excited to think this might actually be possible in my son's lifetime and it doesn't make me hope any less that it does, indeed, work without major side-effects (ala, Lactaid tablets and such...) Only time will really tell.... There have been way too many drugs recently that they have rushed to market only to have to work even harder to have them pulled later. The other thing that concerns me is that with the things I have read on these meds, I don't hear them saying one word about whether long term damage will not occur anyways. I only really hear about it addressing the symptoms. I want to make certain that it will actually work and not just cover up symptoms while continuing to cause damage.my 2¢, Cheryl in MNrxp_us@...
