Guest guest
I started off by taking 100mg a day of zinc back in June of 2000. I finally cut back to 50mg a day. Recently I read that you should take copper with it. I haven't found any pills that just have copper and now I'm worried that I have done something to harm myself by not taking copper with it. Zinc really helped my breakouts during my monthly cycle. I use to get sore pimples on the chin and it has really helped. Anyone has any info on this. Thanks, Sheila
Guest guest
Hello Sheila, I read something about taking copper too. Apparently copper merely increases the efficacy of the zinc...so if you want to reap the full benefits of zinc then you should take some copper. I think it was about 5mg of copper or something but I'm not sure. You certainly haven't done any harm by only taking zinc. I haven't really looked for copper anywhere but had wondered if you could buy it. Hope this helps. > I started off by taking 100mg a day of zinc back in June of 2000. Guest guest
Actually, an excess of zinc can deplete your copper stores, so if you supplement with zinc, you should likewise supplement with copper. I take a 30mg zinc capsule daily; it also includes 2mg of Cu. You don't need much. You should be able to find this sort of combo at any health food store or vitamin shop. --- windwillcarryus@... wrote: > Hello Sheila, > > I read something about taking copper too. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I'm glad you cut down your zinc intake to 50mg per day. You will find that it is enough to see results. I have been taking 50mg for many years. Recently I read that zinc and copper should be taken together. If you take 50mg of zinc the correct copper dosage is 3 mg, not more. I know that Vitaminshop.com sells 2 mg capsules, and I think that is fine to take. ( " chelate " form is good) My info. is based on the book " Prescription for Nutritional Healing " It says: The level of copper in the body is related to the levels of zinc and vitamin C. Copper levels are reduced if large amounts of zinc and vitamin C are consumed. If copper levels are too high, levels of vitamin C and zinc drop. The early signs of copper deficiency are: osteoporosis, anemia, baldness, diarrhea, general weakness, impaired respiratory function, and skin sores. Excessive intake of copper can lead to toxicity, which has been associated with depression, irritability, nausea and vomoting, nervousness, and joint and muscle pain. The use of oral contraceptives and/or tabacco can cause a rise in the amount of copper in the body. If you are concerned, copper levels can be determined through blood tests, urine samples, and hair analysis. While I do take supplements like zinc, milk thistle, vitamin E etc..., I do it with caution. Every 3or 4 months I give my system a complete break. No supplements for 3, sometimes 4 weeks.(this has worked well for me, but might not be good for everyone) In the book it also states: If you follow a supplementation program for longer then a year, change brands periodically so that you do not develop an intolerance or build up a resistance to one or more of the ingredients in one supplement. Remember, you can develop an intolerance to the ingredients in vitamins and other supplements just as you can to foods. I hope this answers some of your questions,Sheila Good luck Isabella __________________________________________________
