Guest guest
I have been on low-dose Accutane for a month now (10 mg/day). In the beginning I had lots of breakouts and my skin stayed very oily (mainly in the T-zone). Now, my T-zone is normal, not oily and no breakouts, but my cheeks are extremely inflamed and irritated with red pimply spots -- they actually burn and hurt all day long. I use Vita-oil, then aloe vera, and then Zinco, which used to be soothing but now I'm back to EVERYTHING being irritating. I need to use something because if my cheeks get even a little dry they get all bumpy with big red spots, and red and inflamed (there is normally no residual redness in my cheeks, usually just when they get irritated). I'm also back to getting a burning red face while I'm sleeping -- this hasn't happened for ages. I recall from before the irritation often started when my cheeks started getting a little dry, and I guess they've become really dry from the Accutane, even using a ton of moisturizers. I have no idea what to do, and I'm back on anti-depressants -- I need help! I desparately need something to work because I've had to quit my job from this (over a year now because of lights being a trigger) and all the conventional treatments haven't worked (Noritate, Minocycline), 7 rounds of photoderm haven't worked (by a Bitter-trained doctor who has a very good reputation), and now the Accutane is causing such burning and inflammation that I don't know what to do next! Before anyone mentions it, I drink tons of cold water everyday, eat a sensible vegetarian diet, avoid the sun, take primrose oil and flax seed oil, etc., etc., etc...everything I'm supposed to do but I'm at the end of my rope, and out of options. I need help from anyone who's tried the low-dose Accutane.
Guest guest
, I believe that even such a low dose (10 mg) of accutane which has reduced acne breakouts and oiliness of your T zone, has probably caused severe dryness of your cheeks. This is what's causing your irritation and burning. My suggestion is for you to call your dermatologist and discuss whether or not you can reduce your accutane to 3X per week for a duration of time. Allow your skin's epidermal barrier to repair itself and you might help by rehydrating it and not applying too many products at this time. You probably need to use heavier non-irritating moisturizer that does not contain irritants and use it as often as needed. Also, discontinue any product that causes skin irritation.
