Guest guest
this is now coming from our national office - i had no idea this was even in effect - i usually just phone my rep and senators - To ALL MEMBERS OF LDANJ AND LEADERS OF SUPPORT GROUPS - what do you think of the Hanover Regional District's plan not to allow a girl with DS to walk with her fellow students at graduation? It took intervention from Washington to allow her to do this ( if you are not in county, you may not have read about this. The girl was with the class since kindergarten --- after many battles with the school system by the parents --- she is not accepting her diploma next year, as she will stay in the vocational program - Cty. School of Technology - for another two years. The board, in its infinite wisdom, wouldn't allow her to march with her classmates at graduation next year. I wonder where Special Services was in all of this, and if, indeed, they even bothered to intervene -- this district and its director of special services is known to look down on the child study teams.) I urge you to write to your local newspapers decrying this thoughtless act, and especially one board member's insensitive remarks.- the president of the Downs' Syndrome Society has responded in the Daily Record, and , I hope, in other local newspapers - thanks, terry
