Guest guest
, I have IBS, started with it early of last year, and I'm on meds for it. Did the doctor put your son on medication for it, to help control it? As far as the military accepting him, I wouldn't know, he'd have to check into it. IBS is very unpredictable, this is one reason I haven't tried to get a job, which I wish I could, but I don't know how I'll be from one day to the next or one hour to the next. Guest guest
Donna, My son has not been on medication yet. He is suppose to call the doctor since he is out west at college and doctor is in Michigan. He has always worked and is in his 3rd year of college. He eats a gluten free diet but still some days are bad. I think his is stress related a lot. He tries to relax and do things he enjoys. I also suggested that he try homeopathy. My friend who is now in Australia believes it could help. Thanks,

Guest guest
mine was completely cleared by diet. I increased the fiber to 50g a day - all from vegetables, beans and fruits, none from supplements. Cut out all animal products, artificial colorants and preservatives and all processed foods. However, I somehow doubt this solution will go down well with a college aged male. Shez > Donna, > My son has not been on medication yet. Guest guest
IBS is really more of a symptom than a disease itself (in my opinion). I had horrendous IBS about 13 years ago and the problem improved dramatically when I removed dairy from my diet. It wasn't until 10 years after that that I realized that gluten was also contributing to the symptoms. Also, the symptoms can arise even with the minutest amounts of gluten or dairy for me. Also, there are other foods/additives that cause the symptoms such as sorbitol. Alcohol can also cause IBS symptoms in some folks. Another cause of IBS is neurotoxic illnesses such as mold or Lyme disease. Individuals with specific genotypes (including the genes associated with CD) can not clear the neurotoxins produced by mold and other biotoxins, thus they end up with damage to the hypothalamus, which controls the production of a hormone called MSH. This hormone influences the production of the hormones that maintain the intestinal lining. When MSH is low, people often have IBS symptoms. There's a basic description of the problem at: http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com/ The details are described in the book "Mold Warriors" by Ritchie Shoemaker Here's an article that explains the impact of neurotoxins on the gut in a slightly different way, but the end result is problems like IBS: http://fattyacids.wordpress.com/2006/09/09/biotoxins-are-neurotoxins/ Be well, B -------------- Original message -------------- Have any of your doctors said you have IBS? Guest guest
I was told I had IBS before I was diagnosed with Celiac. Sometimes I think IBS is a diagnosis doctors use when they don't know what else to call it.
