So, I see everyone loves their Kitchen Aid so I'll ask this..

There are SO many. I am looking on Kohls.com and QVC and Wolfgang Puck.. what exactly do I need to make it easer? How many speeds, 325 watt, 400 watt? What attachments. There are SOOO many choices and since I've lived just fine with my $6 hand beater my whole life.. I know NOTHING about the Cadillacs of mixers.. Martha s... help me!

I love, love, heart, heart, my Empire Red Kitchenaid mixer. I got it

as a wedding present, and it replaced my mother's Kitchenaid from the

70's that was bile yellow mustard. I don't have the big pro size- the

commercial kitchen size, whatever that is, but the regular size. Your

standard size sold in stores should be fine. As far as attachments,

it's up to you but in my opinion, those babies are so expensive in

many cases you'd be better of buying the equivalent separate tool to

get the job done. Your mixer is an excellent mixer- doesn't need to be

a meat grinder, cheese shredder, pasta maker, etc. I was enticed by

the pasta maker and cheese shredder- but instead got a $20 italian

handroller for pasta, and plan on getting a food processor in the

future. So, I'm leaving the $60 cheese shredder attachment on the

shelf in the store to seduce someone else. You should be very happy

with your purchase! I didn't think of QVC, but Ebay sometimes has

deals on new Kitchenaid products, as does Amazon.

Thanks Kris! I just got that 20% off coupon in the mail from BB and B. I usually toss it but thought this month it may come in handy.. just in case.

I purchase the Artisan mixer at Bed Bath and Beyond. It retails for about $269 and I waited till I got one of their coupons in the mail (they come out once a month) for 20% off. That dropped the price to $216 then Kitchen Aid had a mail in rebate for another $20 so it total I paid $196. I think the rebate offer is still going on so you might check into that. Costco also had the big commercial sized ones for around $270 but I didn't care for the look of that one. It has a bigger motor but it also took up more counter space and only came in three colors. I think the Artisan comes in over a dozen colors and BB & B will order them for you. Sears and JC Penney also carry them and I think Target does also.As for attachments I didn't buy any extras because as someone else said they are very pricey. I think they all come with the dough hook, whisk, and regular mixing blade and that's all I've needed so far.Kris

There is a kitchen aid one at Sam's for 260.00 right now that is 400 watt. The

one at target that is similar is around 400.00. I am still working on the DH

and am hoping to get this one soon! With my luck, by the time he says OK, it

will be out of stock.

My Kitchen Aid mixer says Ultra Power on it. Another

place it says " max watts 300 " whatever that means.

I have a feeling that any Kitchen Aid stand mixer

would do the trick. I paid $199.00 for mine 'on sale'

in 2000. But that is the only price for which I've

ever seen them for sale.

Have fun looking, and when you do get yours, I know

you'll love it!

  • 2 weeks later...

I got mine at Costco. I did some research before I bought mine and found that the cheaper version's internal parts are plastic and wear out faster. So I went for the tricked out version from Costco. It was about the same price as the regular one at other stores. I swear it even makes cake mixes taste better!
